Has anyone successfully gotten relief from migraine through acupuncture? I am talking about people who, like me, get them almost daily, and they are so severe that they are debilitating. I have only about 2 to 3 days a week without one. I invested in three months of acupuncture (twice a week) and chinese herbal medicine, with a man who had all the right licenses and was on the GW faculty for medicine, and got no relief. Should I have continued? I hope someone out there with a similarly severe condition can shed light on this.

Thx for the answers, but please try and read my specifics. I do not want to hear about other remedies. And for those who did acupuncture, how long did you stick with it, before you saw results, if you did.

i too get migraines alot and they are wicked things when they come. when mine come i sometimes cannot get out of bed due to the pain and other symptoms. I did try acupuncture last year and i found that it didn't take the migraines away completely but it did make them less severe than they had been. i stopped my acupuncture after about 5 months as the lady that was treating me was leaving the province but it did help some
i hope that this helps you
Take care

Sorry to hear about your migraines. I get them every spring triggered by pollen so I know what you're going through. Personally I wouldn't pay for acupuncture because everything I've seen says that it's placebo only, so it's not likely to help me. However, if you strongly believe in that kind of thing it might help you and anything that reduces the pain is good. Shop around and make sure you aren't paying too much and that your practitioner is reliable. I would still see a neurologist if I were you though, there may be a different underlying cause than you think. Lastly, while caffeine triggers migraines in some people, or makes the pain worse, this isn't the case for everyone. For some people, myself included, caffeine actually CURES migraine pain. This is way many OTC migraine pain relievers contain caffeine. So you may not need to cut back on your coffee. Good luck.

I'm a Korean and I studied a little the oriental acupuncture.
Such a remedy doesn't belong to only China.
It is also popular in East Asian nations;Korea, Japan.

Anyway, if the doctor did right onto you, you should have
gotten effect earlier---usually as soon as you were treated.

The doctor has probably asked you to wait more.
But usually the effect of acupuncture comes immediately
after treatment.

You said you have seen the doctor several times, then
you don't have to see him anymore.

And I once watched TV and it informed me migraine
can come from the extraordinariness of your chin.

If bones of your chin is distorted, it could raise continuous
aches. Try seeking another doctor, and sorry for poor English.

I understand the pain/inconvenience of migraines. Try acupuncture to see if it works for you. I've also heard of biofeedback. Do you take prevention medicine for migraines (i.e. Inderal)? Works for me.

It has worked for a few people I know. It is worth the try but after 10 tries or so I'd give up. Though acupunture works its also a mind over matter thing. If you are tense and do not feel a chg I'd try biorhythm
