Whether or not penalties should be brought to bear against North Korea is an issue for the National Security Council.
Personally, I believe that the UN is a waste of time an money. A writer I am fond of once wrote that the U.S. is ". . . a cancer which has rooted itself in New York . . ."
Yes, I believe that pressure should be brought to bear with sanctions. Also, China should step up their actions because everyone in the global community knows they are propping the government there. To continue to prop up a leader such as this does more to ruin a nation's credibility.
As for N. Korea's threat of war if any action is taken, this should also be handled with expedition. Should this leader even attempt to make war over any sanctions brought to him, they should be met with swift and assured response.
Any leader of any country who behaves in the ways that Kim Il Jong has been leading his country should be dealt with accordingly. Since this is a public board, I shall refrain from laying out my personal beliefs on how this should be accomplished.
in closing, I reiterate that there should be sanctions and actions taken. However, I believe they won't be because the world is too timid to respond. It is as though thousands of Neville Chamberlin's have been reborn to deal with the Hitler's of today. A continuous program of 'appease and drop the issue' is upon us. Unfortunately, people have forgotten that actions and a program such as that led to World War II. Dictatorous and treacherous leaders must be dealt with in a swift manner . . . especially when they openly threaten war.

Sanctions don't work because China is the main supplier of DPRK's needs. Dialogue must still be the option. Former Sec State Albreight used to be able to have face time with the Kim - why this about turn in policy now?

I dont think so, every country has the right to develop weapons for their safety, but the world should get some kind of assurance that these will not be misused.
America should stop acting like a world policeman.

Nope-got enough with Iraq that we are practically on our own with as it is. If the missiles get close enough to other countries, perhaps THEY will do something rather than U.S. sticking nose out AGAIN!Cut off all imports to NKOREA-let their people rebel against their own gov & straighten out their own mess!
