First of all, 100 is average, NO MATTER WHAT YOUR AGE.
Therefore, telling you our ages has no bearing on our IQs. Your age is used in the calculation of your IQ because you are compared to other people your own age in your answers. If you get similar answers to most people your age, you score 100.
Above 100 means you got more answers right than most people your age.
Secondly, 117 means you are smart... high average.
Online tests usually score too high (by 5 or so points) to boost your ego and encourage you to buy their test information. They are NOT reliable... if you want to get a clear picture of your learning ability, you need to be directly tested. Mensa can do it, or your school diagnostician for special education.
Even so, your score is good.
Here is the breakdown:
130 -- Genius/gifted level (2% of population)
115 - 129 -- Bright/superior level (16% of population)
101 - 114 -- High average level (32% of population)
85 - 100 -- Low average level (32% of population)
71 - 84 -- Borderline level (16% of population)
70 and below -- intellectually challenged (mentally retarded) level (2% of population)

IQ stands for Intelligence Quotient. It only measures one kind of smarts. There are other kinds of smarts. So don't worry what your IQ is or isn't.
but for your info I can tell you that mean average IQ is 100 the range of 85 to 115 is considered normal.
86 being considered lo normal 114 being high normal
117 is above average, not high range normal as one other asnwerer has suggested.
Online anything is NOT reliable.
Having your IQ tested by a qualififed parctitioner, ie a psychologist will not give you a definite abosolute answer to what is your IQ. Your IQ can vary from day to day and from hour to hour. Some people would score extremely well at 7am ans less well at 3pm Other people would score the other way around.
If you have something as simple as the common cold you will score less well than you ordinarily will.
If you recently failed something that was very important to you then you may score really low on an IQ test simply because you are not feeling too smart.
If you recently had a big success at something that was important to you then you may score higher than you ordinarily will because you are feeling more confident and firing on all cylinders.
There are far too many variables for any set of tests to be an accurate indicator of your true level of smarts.
If you are capapble of learning new things, carrying out the every day functions you need to carry out, can hold a reasonable conversation about a variety of topics and you understand right from wrong (as is culturally appropriate for you) then you really dont need a test to say you are smart.
You just need to know you are doing fine. Now move right along.

First of all, never ever trust an online IQ test. They can have an error margin of over 30 points. Only trust a licensed professional to give you the test. I had an IQ of 142 in second grade, and the IQ you got (117) is considerably above average. If you really want to know your actual IQ your school should have some resources.

IQ stands for intelligence quotient. That just means it compares your mental abilities to the average of those of people your age all times 100
IQ = (Mental Age / Chronological Age) x 100
If you are average, the result would be 100
100 IQ = (Your Mental Ability / The Average Ability) x 100
117 is just outside of what is called the 'first standard deviation' (115 is the first standard deviation for IQ) Without going into a lot of statistics you are probably not interested in anyway, it means that you are smarter than 2/3 of everyone your age.

IQ tests have a range. For most, the 15 point segment (EX: 100-115) constitutes one standard deviation. An IQ score of 100 shows that person is in the median (middle / average). The average range is one standard deviation below 100 to one standard deviation above average (85-115). In order for students to qualify for the gifted program, they must score above two standard deviations above 100, or above 130. At 117, you are average, but no dummy!
By the way, IQ scores are used to predict one's ability to be successful in a school and testing environment; the higher the IQ, the more likely the person can handle the academics. Of course that does not take into consideration their motivation level or their attitude. On the other hand, IQ scores are also used to determine if there is a cognitive disability, like mental retardation.

IQs are not age related. Provided the correct test is applied for age and background. 100 is average in the UK and this has remained static, however Japanese IQs average above 100. This is because childbearing was for many years more prolific among the rich than the poor, and there is a correlation between wealth, IQ, IQ of chosen spouse and children. A top 2% mark in any of these frequently used tests below qualifies you for entry to Mensa. The minimum test mark to get into Mensa is: Cattell III B - 148 Culture Fair - 132 Ravens Advanced Matrices - 135 Ravens Standard Matrices - 131 Wechsler Scales - 132

I took two separate free IQ tests. I scored 115 and I took it over and scored 120 five years ago, and now I score 117. I actually pass most of my class tests and I was ranked 2nd and 3rd in my class at high school. I am average in math but I cant do calculations in my head. I have to do it on paper but I can reason and develop solutions for any problem. I have 6 academic awards including math which I am not good at.

Don't waste time worrying about your IQ. The mystic IQ number doesn't mean squat, can change every time you take the test, and really does not prove a damn thing.....
For instance, if a person is unable to read the IQ test, is that person an idiot? Nope.
If a person has an IQ of 117, will they automatically be a success? Nope.
High IQ does not mean smart. A person with an IQ of 140 can be an idiot when it comes to actually thinking something through.
"Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is why so few engage in it." H. Ford I believe....
