there are many ways to purify water to make it potable.making it safe to drink.the easiest is to get a gallon of water and add a capcull off bleach and let it sit for half an hour stirring frequently to blend in the bleach.any bleach will do.then its ready for consumption.you can add 2 tablets of iodine and in an hour its ready for drinking.however filtering does not purify water for drinking but it takes outs microscopic material.the people in ghana west african have to filter their water to take out a parasitic worm. the largest treatment facilities are located where else in large cities but all cities must have some type of water treatment program or the state will not let them distribute the water.i have worked in water treatment in a small town. adding chlorine and fluoride to water not only makes it safe to drink it also aids your teeth from getting cavities.all cities that distribute potable water must have a state regulated water treatment facility and undergo frequent testing of the water everyday and every 4 hours the chlorine levels are checked.this does vary from state to state. chlorine kills 99.9% of harmful bacteria in water.if your wondering how you get clear water from muddy water thats simple.alum is added in every pond and it makes the mud particles flocculate and fall to the bottom of the pond then it is pumped out to be treated.
