The ring is what you two in the relationship make if it!
If you asked her to marry you it is an engagement ring.
If you asked her to promise to be with only you, it is a promise ring.

It is what you make it to be, but you and your girl need to talk about it so you both know what it is!!

i had a promise ring once...from my high school boyfriend. we were "promised" to be engaged once we were old enough and had finished college.
we did NOT become engaged however and broke up a year after high school graduation.
i think in today's society its just a way for teens to be as "crazy in LUST" as they can be until they grow up a bit. girls fawn over cute boys and promises of being together always...its silly i know, but in a way its actually a very good way to "practice" so-to-speak for when you really DO commit to someone, and marry.
call it "playing house" or "the pretend fiance" if you will...but that is what it really is. IMHO

No, she's not your fiance. A promise ring is sort of like putting the girl on layaway...you're not ready to make the big commitment to her (engagement ring), yet you don't want her dating anyone else.

A promise ring makes her your girlfriend who just might accept an engagement ring and become your fiance.

it's a promise to get engaged.....
then if you get engaged....well, then you know it's a promise to get married

so in some ways it is a way for a guy to tell her he's not ready for an engagement, but it's something he may do in the future

What did you promise? If you promise to marry her, then she is your fiance.
