they make clips for socks...I found them at Target. They are easy to clip on and makes it so easy for me to keep up with them, plus you can use the clips in the dryer...so no folding the socks...when my kids get out a pair of socks they unclip and put the clip into the sock drawer. My husband too. Anyways you can choose from a few colors and they come I think 10 clips to a bag, and they not to much.

Well, there is a new technology called RFID, currently in use by airliners to know at every moment where each peace of luggage is.

It means the luggage is chipped with a micro radio transmitter. This technology will soon be used for all kind of application including socks (no kidding, when I was running a ICT agency I had one engineer working on a project like this).

In short: in the future your washing machine know which items you have put inside and what program to run for it. It will even warn you if you put red socks with white T-shirts from preventing getting peach (see another question in this group).

Till that time I use a system of letting the socks hang on the drying line until the other one shows up. After all they all go through the same process. And yep, there's a single blue hanging there for three years now. (no need to tell, that I'm running a single man's household).

A good softner in the wash and anti static sheet in the dryer will help keep the socks from sticking to another item and getting lost.

Another suggestion would be to have everyone put thier socks in a "sock box" when they need to be washed. Wash just socks in a load and you will find missing socks you never knew you were missing.

Also - when I had this problem I went through the kids drawer and made sure I had all the socks matched up. I put the socks that did not match into a small walmart bag and gave them a week to find the match - if I did find the match I made sock mice with them (another story all together) and a few sock monkeys and we started the "sock box". I have not had a problem since.

The hard part is training them to use the "sock box". But they will, just keep reminding them and if you see thier socks, kindly ask them to put them in the box.... eventually they wont need reminding. My two year old does it without prompting now.

good luck

This sometime can be tedious, but it keeps the socks from being eaten.

Use a small safety pin, I learned when I take the socks off I keep the safety pin close by and do it then.

Otherwise they end up in the Magical world of misfit socks!!

First off, make sure you have both of them before you do laundry. I usually do this by folding the two tops down so that they're tied together. That way when you're ready to do laundry, your socks are all there. Works for me all the time.

Okay the best thing to do when you're throwing them all in the machine, and you don't want them to go missing -
Throw in some party favors and they'll stick around.

Could also make sure when tossing them in, none have fallen on floor under machine -
Or be sure to check if they've stuck to other clothes in dryer!

Or they just got to HOLY and left for the monastery!

dont wash them just buy new socks

or you could nail your dirty socks to the inside of the washer so they will stay put, have to do the same for the dryer though

they sell net bags in the store where you can put socks, lingerie and bras so that they don't get messed up or damaged.
