yes you are right . England have got a really good team with some of the best players in the world .but the media put far to much pressure on them .the press had England as the winners of the world cup before a ball was even kicked is that really fair on the players and the constant reference to the 66 team is not only annoying but again unfair on the currant team

That's the Media for you - According to the media this was the best England team ever since 1966 - how much are you betting they say that next time too!?! The tabloids build all the hype up and then insult their own players by highlighting every error, they do it every time - tabloid news reporters are like politicians - they lie to your face but don't batter an eyelid. England didn't win the World-cup - they didn't play at their best, but I will support them no matter what the tabloids say.
The Aussies went home as hero's - you would have thought they were taking the World cup with them - but over here the media put the England squad down before they returned home (the same squad they had said were the ones to rule the world of football just five weeks earlier) - but it sells papers and makes money - that's all that matters to them!
I say congratulations to the England team, they qualified, they topped the group, but unfortunately they were beaten in penalties. The Euro's are in two years time, then another two years from there to try for the World Cup again. We've won it once - granted that was 40 years ago, but a lot of countries haven't even got close to it.

The media is certainly responsible in part.
But I think the biggest problem is the high level of expectation from the English in general. They cannot accept that since 1966 they have not won any major tournament, and I think that when it comes to the crunch the English teams just lose their bottle, because there is such a huge level of expectation.
It must be disheartening to play for England though and be constantly told you suck by the media.

It goes on in the premiership every week (media i mean). In any country you go there is a hype around the national team it is to create support! Hate to keep saying it but it is down to Sven and a lack of heart from some players who think they have already won before the game starts!
Media is irrtating but the people who don't have a clue about footy believe the hype!
Which is actual quite good for national support!

It is not just football. The English Press are monsters to any sporting team, or indeed any celebrity. If a team is performing well they are unrealistically elevated to cult hero status, and as soon as they slip they are shamed! Look at the historical treatment of the cricket team as well. Just 18 months after being monstered for their terrible inconsistant performances, they are being lauded for knighthoods by some fleet street goons after their amazing Ashes victory. Now, suffering from an unbelievable run of injuries, they are being slated again. I mean, come on, who can do their best knowing the public's perception of them hinges on a Sun reporter's interpretation of their efforts.....

It's suffering cause the WAGS are taking all the attention and distracting there partners. Ban them from future tournament, it's only a month. Women who's partners are away for months and months at war fighting for there Country don't go. So why should the fans money pay for the WAGS to live in luxury and go on one big shopping trip.
Ban the WAGS!!!!

No. They played Italian style soccer because their Swedish coach is Italian experienced and trained, and not the English soccer we see in the Premier League every weekend.
