I am a 25 year old, Have done BA in economics.

Currently am working in a call center. I am very interested in computers and have a programmer's bent of mind, I know this coz in school I had done Pascal programming, and it came very naturally to me.

Now I have not done any course in computers, and I cannot do any academic course like bachelors or engineering or anything.

I would like to know, is it possible to make a carrer in computers. proggramming or web designing or something like that?

Provided that I work hard at it, how lucrative or how feasible do you think it can be , given my position?

My other option is to do MBA,. I would really appreciate if somecan can guide me in this. If possible suggest some course you might know.

I am considering doing it because I am passionate about it. Otherwise, I can earn money by doing MBA too.

Just one more follow up question:

What ever experience I have had with web designing (quite basic, HTML and some java script) , I feel that web designing is much easier than programming. Is it so? If you have done web designing, can you tell me on an average how much time does it take. Of course I would find this information out from NIIT too, this weekend.

Is NIIT, the best institute in India?? for web designing and/or programming?? Would appreciate input from ex NIITian

Web design, or web programming is probably one of the easiest fields to transition into. Though it would require much work, in terms of learning your chosen programming language, it's definitely doable.

MBA can be lucrative, as well. If computers are your passion, web design can make you between $10-100 per hour.

I started in the design field about 6 years ago making $10 per hour, and I'm currently making around $60 per hour. I'm a PHP/LAMP developer.

Yes, pursue only if you have a passion. Doing it for the money only is the wrong reason.

Having said that, learn C first. There are likely more programs done in C than ALL other languages combined. It's not as sexy as the other languages, but if you want a job, learn C.

Get experience in debugging and testing - EXTREMELY important here. Learn some major algorithms (searching, sorting and the like)

But most of all - have fun!

i am an 17yr old and i am just going to start my engineering...But in the past three to four years i have learned a lot about computers... I know html , c and i created many many websties... you can check http://www.obair.here.ws and http://www.obair.official.ws and http://obair2.hi5.com ..i didnt go to any institution or classes to learn webdesigning or anything related to computers... I can do about anything in computers .let it be hardware or software. I am even good at sound and image editing....

What i mean to say is that it is a fact that you dont require degrees to be talented. Its the zeal and interest you need to become a great person or an excellent programmer or whatever u intend to do. So definitely hard work is the key ......

SO, try to learn everything by yourself ...hope that encourages u to achieve ur aim and best of luck

Most IT jobs are reasonably lurative, but if thats why you're doing it then you're in it for the wrong reasons.
