It's a Habit of Nature that graduates into Addiction & then transforms to become Obsession....It's completely a built-in natural process of impulsive instinct that one is attracted to something & absolutely must have it & also eventually just simply can't get enough of it (not just pertaining to solely shoes but for anything). =) This issue is by far not only a Female gendered issue of matter either. Everyone has SOMETHING to this such regards! By the way...Wasn't CARRIE the one always with the crazy shoe fetish?

First of all not just women love shoes. I really like hiking boots. Of course I don't own three hundred pairs, I just own one pair of hiking boots.
When I bought those boots, I looked at lots of different styles of boots and looked on the internet and at sales around town, before I found a pair of Dunham Waffle Stompers that were all leather on sale at some web site for about 85 bucks which was about fifty dollars off of normal retail.
I like wearing those boots because they are all leather, they are oiled leather, they have heavy solid soles, and they are great for hiking as well as making me look like a tough lumberjack. Of course the fact that I wear a size 14 boot and am 6' 5" doesn't hurt the image.
Women however miss one point. I was looking for a pair of hiking boots that I liked the best. Notice I said I was looking for hiking boots. I chose those boots based on specific other preferences.
Once I found the boots I wanted I was satisfied that they had filled my need.
A woman buys shoes because of the way they look, the way the make her legs and feet look, the way they go with different outfits etc. etc. etc.
I wear my boots with any outfit, and don't worry too much about how I look.
When you are obsessed with how things look you will never be able to settle on any one thing. The right makeup can make you look like the dangerous vixen. Or a different kind of makeup and outfit can make you look like the sweet school girl.
Or you can go with no makeup and get real tan and if you are pretty fit, then you can wear more earthy clothes and look like the rugged outdoorsy girl.
The list is endless. Shoes help women to play roles, and they enable them to exploit the appearance of clean shaven legs to maximize the appeal of those roles they play or you might say impressions they are trying to create in peoples minds.
In the end you are not any of these things that the shoes or makeup or clothes make you look like, even if it floats your vanity and gives you a kind of power over people's, particularly men's minds.
What do I get from my hiking boot? Recently I was lining a canoe through the edge of a marsh in Yellowstone National Park, and the water was just about up to my ankles but my feet stayed perfectly dry because the leather was oiled so well and the boots were as waterproof as the manufacturers claimed.
I wasn't worried about what I looked like, I was worried about the actual physical advantage I was getting from my boots.
Sure, its an added benefit that they look cool, but ultimately a mature man is more concerned with functionality, that is, how well a thing serves a purpose, but many women are obsessed with the way things look without understanding any kind of issue of functionality.
Why do you think women wear high heels, they would rather be that godd*mned uncomfortable and think they look super hot, then wear tennis shoes and feel plain.

I just love shoes, I wait for sales to come and I normally buy 2-3 pairs each time.
I think the reason is that even if you are wearing the best dress, best clothes, best outfits with ugly shoes you would look bad.
An elegand lady knows how to match a nice pair of shoes with appropriate clothes.
Can you imagine wearing flat sandals with a silk long dress, or army bootes with black strick dress or suit?:)))

Because they can look so cute and make legs and feet look so awesome. Clothes remind you that you're fat (if you are) and they rarely fit just right, but the perfect pair of shoes is so easy to find and always makes feet (even the jacked up ones) look pretty. I'm not you're biggest fan of heels though. They're so hard to walk in.
