Has it always been really slow, or is this a new problem?
It's possible your computer has been loaded down with programs to the degree it's impacting performance. If you're running a Windows machine, you should do all the basic spyware/virus checks, first.
If you currently don't have a virus scanner, or even if you do, it might be a good idea to go to:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com
..and perform a full system scan. It's free, and could result in improved performance.
Otherwise, check the amount of programs that are starting when your computer boots up by (assuming Windows) clicking on the Start button, and then the Run command.
Type MSCONFIG into the box, and click on the StartUp tab. If you have pages of things listed here, then you should find someone who is savy with computers to cut that down significantly, as it would improve performance.
Other than that, you might look into some basic memory upgrades (RAM), but loading software to try and improve computer speed is definitely the WRONG way to go, as it will typically just result in more problems.

one thing alot of people over look when the comp. jams or runs really slow is your start up mechanics. if you bought this company from dell, H.P., etc. I would strongly advise you to call customer service, speak with a tech and in the device manager under startup uncheck all the programs thatt are NOT necessary to run your computer. It will free up alot of space and your computer will run alot better. I would try that first before I went out and spent alot of money on memory, however, that may be necessary also.if your memory is minimal. Well, good luck hun, and enjoy your games.

if you can afford add a bit of RAM to your system.
next, format all the hard drives and install a fresh copy of windows.
if your games are running slow, then you must get a grafix card for your machine, an entry level card will do, go for the 6600 gt chipset, if you don't have enough money.
another thing that you can do, is turn off all the visuals for windows xp, and run it as windows classic.

Computer Slow
Download and then run startup.exe at:
http://www.mlin.net/startupcpl.shtml......
Can't live without it and windows...
Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don't need.
Other things to try:
1 - Disk Cleanup (removal of temp files, cookies, etc.)
2 - Defrag
3 - Registry Cleanup (CAN BE VERY RISKY!)
Joe...

u should increase the ram of ur computer to minimum 256MB. and u should download trusted stuff from the net otherwise sometimes corrupted files get attached to these stuff and hence harm ur computer by making it slow.

Regularly run virus, spyware, and adware scans. Any of those can easily slow your system down.
