Similar incident happened with a member of my family. Fought for weeks and weeks with social security employees.

What it boils down to is this: You NEED to get yourself a good attorney. Not just any attorney, but one that specializes in this area alone.

It doesn't cost anything to talk to one, so just do it.

My family member raves "its the best money I ever spent".

Good luck

Lawyers DO NOT take 30-50% of your earnings. Don't believe a lot of the hogwash you hear on this board. The best thing to do is pick up the yellow pages and start calling lawyers. Ask THEM the questions. "Our" attorney was VERY reasonable, these cases aren't like criminal cases. Not even in the same league!

Social Security Disability is highly controlled by the US government. You will only receive it if you are 'totally disabled'. Clearly you have the medical records that you have bulging discs probably from an MRI. However, SSD will look at you as a 'whole being' they will wonder why you can not take another job, perhaps one where you work sitting down, or something that you can do to make money that doesn't involve your back issues. The Government makes it difficult to qualify and receive SSD do to all the folks that are trying to qualify for it that should not be. If you are truly totally disabled, you need not get an attorney to help you. I don't understand why USPS gave you long term disability but then took it back. Where you caught doing something that you stated you could not do? Many companies, the government included will hire detectives to watch you if they think your claim is faulty. Be truthful and go forward. Surely you must have all of your doctor/medical records to prove your case. If you are desevervent of SSD, good luck to you.

first you need to call the ssi local number. they will set you up with a time to come in and answer questions, and you may need to be seen by a doctor. (chose and paid for by ssi). you really don't need a lawyer for the first application process. if you get denied then hire a lawyer. not everybody gets denied on the first try. also the state may have general asistance to help while you wait for ssi. there is a cap on what lawyers can charge for these cases % wise and only if you win. you can apply online actually. go to www.ssa.gov

If they gave you long term disability I don't understand how they could 'take it back'...you must have doctor's orders and records! Go to social security and apply for disability there. It might take time but you should get it.
