America

in your question is two things linked but seperate.

1)The business and people
2) The federal government or state.

The Federal government may lose billions and billions of dollars....meaning money rasied from taxes (the people, a majority middle class and poor) and funds from treasury bonds..(deficit spending, and the selling of our bonds to China)

however Multi National Corparations make Billions of dollars....providing bullets, tanks, planes, ect ect......

private companies deliver water, gasoline, food.....
security........

They rebuild countries that were destroyed by our bombs....

Private companies may get access to natural resources of a conquered terrirtory.....from bannas to oil......

people who invest in these companies see profit, people who own these companies see fortunes..

ect ect ect...........

Unfortunately, the basis for your question is off. The simple truth is that countries do not make money by going to war. War tends to be very expensive and non productive.

There are those within countries who make more money during times of war, i.e. weapons manufacturers. However, when governments are using tax dollars to buy guns, then they are not using tax dollars to create wealth. For example maintaining and improving the transportation system. History is full of examples of how extended war has exhausted countries and destroyed their economic well being.

Mr. Bin Lauden is hoping we do the same in our War on Terror. The attack on the World Trade Center cost approximately $100,000 to conduct. We have spent somewhere around $500 BILLION in response. Even the US cannot trade dollars at that ratio forever.

America doesn't, some Americans do. In Iraq America is spending billions of dollars, tax money from Americans. America needs supplies for the war they purchase these from companies, the companies make lots of money. America needs help with rebuilding what the American military destroyed, contracts are given, some Americans make money. America is going bankrupt, some Americans are becoming wealthier than they already are.

When you go to war, is like a bett, the one who wins take it all.
If you win a war, you can win lands, territories, national resource of the country, help your "political Friends" to open business factories etc. Or maybe yo dominated the country in a very diplomatic way; let my Friends open business, this export will go to this place etc. Why Irak, OIL, why Afghanistan, POSITION. Do you know how many North American and British security agencies are now in Afghanistan and Irak? And that means tax for the countries they represented!
I help you, so, I will have your oil, for me and my friends!
And about the armament, who make this weapons? Factories in North America that pay tax! If they increase their volumes in weapons, the increase there profit, so the country will have more tax! And food suppliers, clothing etc, they win a lot of money in many many ways!
And although they win power and submission form other countries that aren't so powerful or threaten!
