Hey. Very low B12 intakes can cause anaemia and nervous system damage. The only reliable vegan sources of B12 are foods fortified with B12 (including some plant milks, some soy products and some breakfast cereals) and B12 supplements. Vitamin B12, whether in supplements, fortified foods, or animal products, comes from micro-organisms. Most vegans consume enough B12 to avoid anaemia and nervous system damage, but many do not get enough to minimise potential risk of heart disease or pregnancy complications. To get the full benefit of a vegan diet, vegans should do one of the following: Eat fortified foods two or three times a day to get at least three micrograms (µg or mcg) of B12 a day. Take one B12 supplement daily providing at least 10 micrograms. Take a weekly B12 supplement providing at least 2000 micrograms.

Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin) is usually given in injection form and is mainly used to treat extreme tiredness and nervousness of a general sort. Pernicious anaemia is the most extreme condition it is used for.

You can take it in tablet form, however, its not as affective in cases where people who are susceptible to a deficiency of vitamin B12 because of an intrinsic factor in the stomach which may prevent the vitamin being absorbed.

Foods vitamin B12 can be found is almost exclusively from animal products. meat, poultry, fish, eggs, brewers yeast and dairy products.

Hope this helps.

Vitamin B is often found in foods like yogurt and other dairy. However most people today need to take supplements to get the right amount of vitamins in their diet. I know that a vitamin B complex is best to take since you need a balance of all the Vitamin B's for best results. B vitamins help release energy from fats, carbohydrates, and proteins in your food, keeping you in nutritional balance.

I use Nutrilite Natural B Complex. It provides 7 important B vitamins at Daily Values of 100–240%.

Many of the important B vitamins found in this Natural B Complex are prepared from specially cultured, natural, deactivated yeast, combined with vitamin B12. A daily serving (I Got this from the label) includes inositol and PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid), nutrients commonly found in B-rich foods.
I get mine at http://akhaze.qhealthzone.com

If you are going to take it in tablet form then you need to take B complex ( vitamin B 1--12) it doesnt work very well in isolation also vitamin E will work as an adjunct and help it to work better.
I think Quest yeast free is the best source, expensive but well worth the extra, I believe the body cannot store b vitamins

Natural sources of B-12 are mostly meat-based. The most prominent source would probably be liver. Otherwise, you can get supplements online from htt://www.puritanspride.com or http://www.swansonsvitamins.com or from your local supermarket.

B-12 is included in most multi-vitamins.

B-12 is included in about every B-Complex.

B-12 can be purchased as a stand-alone supplement.

It doesn't absorb so wonderfully in the body -- although, one can go months (literally months) without supplementation or food sources, because B-12 is stored in the liver. It's great for energy! To ensure that I get enough B-12 I take a multi-vitamin twice daily, and a B-Complex twice daily. In the mornings, before my shower, I pop a sub-lingual B-12 under my tongue. At 5,000mcg, the sub-l B-12 gives me quite a boost of energy.
