I am hoping to gain an understanding of what the average citizen feels about the threat of terrorism and why.

Interesting question. The war on terror is a war to secure the physical safety of the civilized world. Securing the physical safety of its citizens is the first and most basic of all state responsibilities. It is therefore something that is vital to do.

TERRORISM HAS BEEN GOING ON IN THE WORLD FOREVER. CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS, THE SPAINARDS, PROTESTANTS AND CATHOLICS THEY ALL INVADED THE UNITED STATES AND MADE NATIVE AMERICANS THEIR CAPTIVES WITHOUT CHOICE SO HOW DOES THE UNITED STATES HAVE THE RIGHT TO GO OVER TO SOMEONE ELSE'S COUNTRY OR ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD WHEN THEY ARE JUST AS GUILTY OF TERRORISM, TOO BAD NATIVE AMERICANS DIDNT HAVE ANYONE TO HELP THEM FIGHT FOR THEIR BELIEFS OR THEIR RIGHTS/WE LIVE IN A SAD WORLD EVERYONE WANTS TO DICTATE WHAT THE OTHER CAN OR CANT DO NO ONE IS REALLY FREE AND AS LONG AS PEOPLE OR HUMAN BEINGS FEEL LIKE THEY CAN NOT LIVE THEIR LIVES THE WAY THEY WANT THEY WILL EXPRESS THEMSELVES IN WAYS LIKE FLYING PLANES THROUGH BUILDINGS AND BOMBING INNOCENT PEOPLE UNTILL THEY GET THEIR POINT ACROSS AND THAT IS SAD

Terrorism and war on terrorism both are equally important for US as it can generate money from arms deal and also generate jobs to reduce unemployment.

Do you think small groups of fanatical people be able to determine your events? Killing of innocent people in any cause is wrong period! What if a terrorist kills your family just in the name of trying to releasing his buddies from prison? Then how will you feel towards terrorism?
