Like many have suggested, it is most like an "anxiety attack" of some sort and could be based on lots of things -- including the chemical changes that occur in your body as a teenager, or things in your life that you find emotionally threatening and/or uncontrollable.

I've had a few literal anxiety attacks in my life (where I felt dizzy, my heart raced, I couldn't seem to get my breath although I was just sitting at the time, and I just felt frightened and overwhelmed). But I've also just gotten flashes of "impending doom," almost like feeling like something is about to fall on me and there's nothing I can do to stop it.

Some aspects of life can contribute to this. At the times I've experienced these, I've been "stuck" in jobs that I don't particularly like, with no clear idea of how to find something else, and thus I've felt trapped without hope of change. The anxiety is partly connected to that feeling of being smothered without hope of escape.

There are other issues (related to my past or personal issues) that never quite go away, so I can be having a great time with friends or doing something fun by myself... and suddenly it is like getting hit by a truck, where suddenly all the bad feelings just well up and my mood can shift instantly as I drop back into those bad feelings that never quite go away.

Again, I think part of it is probably that you're young, going through many body changes, and there is a lot of uncertainty in your life right now about where you'll end up, your future, etc.

You are probably also trying to figure "yourself" out -- learn who you are, what you are good at, what you're supposed to do with your life -- and so sometimes you will just act spontaneously as you are being yourself, then suddenly you realize how vulnerable and unsure you are (since you've just exposed part of yourself to people around you), and suffer anxiety because of that. Part of your fears rejection if you show people who you are inside.

If it keeps happening and you find yourself not wanting to be around people (even friends) because you are scared and anxious, then you should find a counselor or trusted adult to talk to, just to prevent things from becoming even worse and to see if there is a biological component that can be helped.

Meanwhile, if you have a friend you can share your feelings with, do that -- it will help you to know that someone else knows and can understand.

If things do not get worse and only happen from time to time, I would probably just accept this as part of the "growing up" process and ride it out -- tell yourself it's just your body responding to a threat that most likely cannot hurt you, and you're actually safe and okay and just need to keep doing what you are doing.

It depends on your age.
If you are younger (12-15 or so) you may just be going through some psychological and physiological changes. Do not worry; take a break, go to a place you feel comfortable, and review how you felt and whether there was any reason for it.
If you are older (or still worried), I would recommend talking to a counselor or psychiatrist, or just somebody you trust.
It is possible that you might have an anxiety disorder, which is a treatable psychological issue. It is not anything to be ashamed of; it affects many people, most of whom are not in straight-jackets.

That is the feeling of doom. It's a little different than fear, but not much different. Although it may be simple paranoia.

After you reach a certain age your doctor will start asking you if you feel it; however, your user name suggests a younger person.

I will state this... If you are young and having these overwhelming feelings, keep close track of this. It may be a disorder you have no control over, and may get worse with time. However, medications do help most cases... Please be aware!

I understand you.. because i already felt that way... i know it's strange.. but in the past, I am so scared of having a stigmata... i don't know why it's happening... it's just that after watching the lifestory of St. Rita.. it just happened.. the center of the palm of my hand is painful...

what i did about these fears is to pray to God and entrust to Him my life.. and eventually, I finally lost that feeling...

i suggest that to try my remedy.. believe me, it's effective...

This is clearly anxiety you are experiencing.

Make sure nothing can cause it internally like drugs, caffeinne, and nicotine. Marijuana causes anxiety as well.

These things can detract from your enjoyment of life. If you feel this isn't the problem, seek counseling. It's more common than you think.

That sounds like an anxiety attack. It can be triggered by almost anything. Sometimes it helps to write down what was happening when you first noticed it and see if you can find a pattern.

In the back of your mind there something that you are trying to keep out. So you are feeling either guilty for something, or upset about something that has happened.

it is kind of an alarm from inner self, your true self which plays its natural way of telling to slow things down or perhaps even an alarm to remind you what you might be persuing may be inacceptable to your conscience. don't be scared, its perfectly natural and should feel good that your true self is still around to warn you.
