Normally when a person's heart stops throbbing, it means he is dead. But in fact this may not be true. The stopping of the heart may be caused by lack of oxygen or other factors, there are still chances of reviving the person.. That's why the doctor will still to revive the patient even after it shows that the person's heart has stopped throbbing

If you are not a doctor there are 3 times when you can say a person is dead.
1) Decapatation
2) Rigormortis has set in
3) Decomposition has started.

When the heart and breathing stops long enough to cause all brain functions to cease. I beleive after about 7-8 minutes. Irreparable damage is done after 4mins with out oxygen to the brain. If you are doing CPR then you do it till a more qualified person takes over.ie a doctor or paremedic.

Actually it is a combination of everything written below:
1. when the person stops breathing and the heart stops beating
2. when there are no vital signs
3. when brain is no longer working
4. when the person's color has changed to bluish-black
5. when the person has gone to rigor-mortis state (and body becomes really stiff)

when someone is still and nothin is moving and even if u beat him harsh they do not react at all....
also close his nostrils, if they dont react they are dead...
