I don't think he had any allies or sidekicks, apart from Tom King, another highwayman. Turpin committed his first murder (it is alleged) in May 1735 and fled to York on a stolen horse (Black Bess) and lived under the name of John Palmer. He came unstuck when he returned, maybe to see his wife, and wrote a letter under the name of Palmer. His old school teacher John Smith recognised the writing and, as the saying goes "grassed him up" to the Magistrate probably for the reward. Poor old Turpin paid the price of crime and John Smith lived happily ever after.

was it robin? i think it was robin then when batman came around robin realised he get alot more action being batmans sidekick so he left him for dust......the rest is history, although in batman begins robin isnt around, i figure he may have tried to pass the recruitment process to be in the x-men as they seem to be the latest fad, dont think hell get in though as jumping around in tights is hardly a super power.
