What do you guys think about Zinedine Yazid Zidane's actions in the closing minutes of the World Cup Championships? Did his action, that ruled him a red penalty card, cause France's loss to Italy in the PKs? Would he have gotten a spot to kick a penalty kick?

Of course there was a provocation, harsh words from Materazzi, but Zidane lose his head. As Juventus (and Zidane') fan, I well remember Champions League, Hamburger SV - Juventus 3-1, Zidane sent off 'cause an head-butt against opponent. It was 24.10.2000.
About France and penalties, I guess Domenech would have Zidane as first shooter. First and last shoot are the more critical, so always they are kicked from the best players, and Zidane already scored on penalty.
Really, I can't know if this could change the score. Zidane scored with kicking a risky shoot to avoid any Buffon's save opportunity. Maybe he would shoot on cross-bar as Trezeguet did... They well know Buffon and him well knows them... and Zidane already lost his nerves... I guess he would easily miss his shot if not send off...

Whatever the provocation Zidane headbutt of Matarazzi is inexcusable, a gross violation of football rules. This senseless assault is sheer stupidity - a moment of insanity that ends the once glittering career of a living legend - from hero to zero.

I have admired Zizou since France won the World Cup. Not anymore. He will be remembered as a French footballer who disgraced himself, let down his team mates and his country. Raymond Domenech by sarcastically applauding the redcard offence joins the rank of the dishonourable, unfit to lead any team.

it's was wrong of zidane, no matter what the insult was he should of known the consequences, but i don't agree that france would of won if he stayed, it would of ended in penaltys either way. italy's defence was phenomenal, buffon made some exceptional saves!

According to me materrazi provoked him intentionally. the Italians were scared of him in the field and more especially his prowess in taking penalty kicks.
