Whatever you "need", you will be motivated toward achieving it. Evaluate your Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats toward achieving your goal and enhance those qualities that will lead you to what you desire.

Segment your task into managable pieces, each facilitating a milestone toward your ultimate objective and make a realistic plan that will guide you from the begining to the end-result. By doing this you can effectively "measure your progress".
