The problem with this question is that it assumes (incorrectly) that there is "harmful technology" and, apparently (through Hegelian dialectical reasoning) that there is harmless or beneficial technology. Agreeing on which is which is a matter of values, and not subject to logical resolution. There are no side effects-there are only effects (and every technological thing has effects). Some are desired by some people, some are not desired by some people, and, most of all, the undesired effects of many technologies are worth putting up with to many people. Additionally, what will ensure the planet's future. Let me be very direct in this. I assure YOU that it will not continue to exist as it is now. Period.

With the growing world population, it would be VERY wise to put into place technologies that are clean and can be maintained for decades to come, even if we have to take a step back in convenience. America survived the Great Depression. We could have a 'lean year' or two until the existing infrastructure is altered to be made less polluting.

I so totally agree with this statement. There are far too many electronic gadgets that waste way too much electricty. Then there are all those cd's that are clogging up the landfills. They'll be there forever and a day it seems. And that's before we even consider all the disposable items that are available.
I could go on but I think you get my point.

Yes, if you can get anyone to agree that "their" moneymaker is going to harm the planet.
When you can get people to stop being greedy, or have common sense overcome greed, then you could do that.

What harmful technology? Technology isn't harmful, only the use that some put it to.
And who would decide? You? I think not.
