sure.
Political Correctness is two things.
1) A term
2) An act.
It is important to distinguish between the two.
lets begin with the term......where did it come from, why does it exists.
The birth of the term is a back lash to the civil rights movements and legislation, which were effectively weakend during the early 80's.
What we commonly know the term to mean is using words or as euphemisms as to be racially sensitive.
Why? Why would anyone be racial sensitive that crazy, We live in a free society, of ideas, etc etc...your point right. Good question.
The term is code for something.....not the act of being PC but the term is code for the erosion of white supremacy in the historical political and social hierarchy in the US.
The term functions as a negative, as a burden, a labor.
Burden to who?
Before the ME generation, before Regan, before the WHITE man plight....
There exisisted a very real racial division and conflict..
I don't have to explain do i?
Racial and Gender empowerment is a very dangerous thing to a hierarchy.....
Empowerment or the affirmation of inalienable rights, the demand for respect...
Respect and Politics are a funny mix because, politically many people were ok with sergration, lynchings, sexism, homophobia....it was accepted by many....no one woried about being politcally correct in a lynching.....those were the good ol days, people knew their place right?
If you are in the postition of power in the political and social hiearchy how do you maintain this power?
By resisting change, by defussing the social progress and advancement of others, by shaming the need for respect, by creating a stigma about demanding respect by creating exaggeration, by conflating the issue, by coming up with a negative word....a bad word....Politcally Correct.
I would argue it is purely an Anglo word to describe something diffrent.....it is a word game to describe an act.
2) the act
What are they renaming with the Term PC, what are they conflating what are they exageragting....what is sooo hanous about it.
The act of course is the recognition of social advacement in White Political and Social Hiearchy.
In the social advancement there wasn't an open arms welcome for minority groups and women's movements......
no one gave them anything or just handed them anything........they fought for it.
Respect was fought for......this is where it gets complicated.
The civil war forced change, womens suffrage forced changed, the civil rights act forced change.
Social progress had to be forced.......and there was resistance......the Klan, Jim Crow, were backlash, the womens movement demonized as lesibian or radical...
Respect was the act seen as being forced upon.......Whites men resisted to this change.......renamed respect.....conflated respect with PC...exgerated it, demonized it, saw it as censorship, changed the issue into something else some other act rather than what it is really about....

Political Correctness is a method for trying to say or do something in such a way as to not offend someone. It's pure bullclinton, really. What you need to do is say exactly what you think about something and hold your head high when you do it. Being PC is for cowards.

Political correctness means not offending anyone. You can give an opinion but it must not be offensive or derogatory to a group of people.

It is a halfassed conept whereby some things (words, actions etc ect) should be avoided because it might "offend". So, for example, a joke that starts like"a Jew, an Arab and a Newfie...." is not politically correct. Bull....

I believe it means when a politician or other person says something only in order not to offend some group of people, wether they really feel that way or not.
Its mostly in the "wording" of what they say.

You seem to have answered your own question beautifully.
Political correctness is saying out loud what you don't really mean just so as to appear polite, sensitive, aware, etc.
PC is BS!

It is a stupid thing because people get offended by nothing. So it is called a man whole cover, Instead we can't offended women and it must be called a people hole cover. We can't call them policemen, we have to call them police person and so on. I am sick of it.
