According to the MOT regulator a mirror has to be visible from the driver's seat, not distorted or damaged so as to seriously impair the driver's view to the rear.
My Mirrors glass is not broken, and is fully functional electronicaly, it got knocked off its mounting by a pheasant some time ago.
But is very secure with duck tape wrapped around the mounting. Would this cause it to fail the MOT?

You'll just have to go along and find out. If it doesn't fail, then all well and good. If it does fail, then you'd have to do something about it anyway. Isn't the retest free? It's not worth stressing about. Just go.
Anyway from a stress analysis point of view - how long before the repair degrades and hits someone on the head.
Beware pheasants!! :))

In theory, yes it would fail, all parts have to be in a good working order to ensure the safe execution of any driving manoeuvre.

In reality some MOT'ers may over look it. I think you should just by a second hand one from Ebay and get them to fit it while they do the MOT

if the glass is unbroken and you can still use it properly, (the tester will sit in the car and check) the it should be ok. Id replace it asap after the MOT though. The general rule of thumb is "if fitted, must work"

well when my car went in for it's MOT the garage replaced the cracked glass with a smaller one they had spare and taped it to hold it in place so that it would pass the MOT - I think it would just depend on the garage but if it's one you always use there shouldn't be a problem.
Best of Luck !
