I was a faithful reader of the Babysitter's Club books. I am 22 now and I remember I started reading those books around 4th grade. I adored Mary Ann because she reminded me of myself, quiet yet a great friend. I liked Dawn's spunky personality and Claudia's creativity. Kristy seemed too bossy for me but yet she had great leadership skills that I envyed. I remember that I wanted to start up my own Babysitter's Club and I attempted to but unfortunately, when you are 10 years-old, you just do not have the means to be able to do it. When the movie came out, I was so excited. Another idea from the movie was given to me: To host a summer camp for children in my community. Oh how I wanted to do that! Unfortunately, the closest I came to doing it was playing make-believe but I certainly had fun pretending that I was a babysitter and holding meetings!

The Babysitter's Club series was fantastic and I was able to collect all of the books and read them. Ann M. Martin wrote a wonderful series for young girls. It's a shame, but I do not think they are in print anymore. I'm glad there are others out there who enjoyed the series as much as I did!

I think the series ended a couple of years ago. There is a new graphic novel version of "Kristy's Great Idea" out now, though. (They had to tone down Claudia and Stacey's crazy 1980s fashion sense for that one.)

The Babysitter's Club was always my favorite series in late elementary school and middle school - I read the Sweet Valley Twins too, but I was never as big into them. I think I started reading the BSC around third grade or so - like Kristy, I didn't know what "decorum" meant. I also remember doing a book report on one of them once, where I had to list new words I learned from the book. I remember "Bunsen burner" being on the list.

I always bought the new book each month. I think my parents started doing that for me before they realized the series was going to go on for almost forever. I got up to the #70s before losing interest, I think. I had the first six or seven "Super Specials" too.

My friends and I went to see the movie in high school for a laugh and wound up disgusted we hadn't gone to see "Babe" (the talking pig movie that was out at the same time) instead.

According to my library listings, my library's most recent Ann M. Martin book was published this year - "Kristy's Great Idea: A Graphic Novel." There are also 8 books since 2000 (plus other versions of each one, like sound recordings and large print). Of course, some of these may be under her name, but done by someone else - the "graphic novel" part of the most recent one suggests this is the case.

FYI, normally a series with sucess that has been around years and years, with several every year, is ghost written. R.L Stine's books, Francine Pascal's sweet valley high, Nancy Drew books, etc, all are now ghost written. The newer spinoffs/stand alone novels are likely the actual author, but usually with a highly successful series, they become ghost written.

So with the babysitter's club being around so long, I'm guessing they only use her name and she doens't write every single one. They make more money that way. (The author and the publisher.)

I used to ADORE those books! Cluadia was my absolute favourite - she was so exotic, I loved her. In school when I was about 10 or something we had to write a letter to someone we admired and I chose to write to Ann M. Martin and I actually got a reply. She seems very nice, I was so proud haha!

I'm probably a rarity, being a guy, but I enjoyed reading them quite a bit back in high school since I was a babysitter too. In fact, I continued reading them long after my sister stopped, I have her whole collection now. My favs were Claudia and Jessi. I haven't read them since Dawn moved back to California, though.

Yeah, I read them from the age of 8.
I really enjoyed them, Claudia was my favourite. I kind of thought I was like her in many ways.
I hated the movie, because all my visions of what they looked like were completely different to how they were in the movie.

One thing that bothered me about the books was how they all started the same... every single one... the whole 'how babysitters club started'.

Yes I do! I still occassionally read them, in fact - but I doubt Ann writes them anymore, I only mananged up to about #80 and the series went to around #115! Lol! I would have liked to read them though. :( Maybe she realised there were too many books! Lol - though you can never have too many, in my opinion. :)

I loved those books when I was a kid. They were so much fun. I MaryAnn was my favorite. I wanted to be just like her. Anyway according to wikipedia, she stopped writing them in 2000. I would check the scholastic website though.
