Lots of people are saying they only won cos they cheated... They got one favourable penalty decision against Australia, but replays show that Grosso was brought down, even though it wasn't a particularly nasty foul. What else is there? I'd like details, not "everyone knows italian players dive, cry, cheat, blah blah blah", thanks!

Best wishes for Italy they won on merit since both them and France got to the penalties and France's player failed his team by kicking the ball astray which you can not blem any one. Viva Italy, they also scored two smart goals against Germany and I knew they would make it unlike France which depended on being favoured by penalties. To bad for Zidane for his misbehaviour and letting his team down, it should have been him to kick that penalty that went off the goal post and not that lazy guy.

Nowhere. Italy didn't cheat when they were awarded the penalty kick. The Australian player was basically lying on the floor next to the goalpost, without trying much to get back to his feet, and I'm pretty sure that anybody could have easily tripped over him, including Fabio Grosso. Wherever the game goes is due largely in part to the referee's decision, which is final.

Wave. Firstly, yes it was a penalty against Australia - there was contact on Grosso - at least as much as there was on the French player for the penno in the final. Secondly in order to beat Italy, Australia would have had to score. I firmly believe that shoot outs aside, if they just let the teams play till one of them scored we'd still be waiting for Australia to break down the Italian defence given the threat they'd posed within the 90 minutes......

If you really want to know, which I'm sure you'll never get to know...unless you join up...the cheating was done not on the field, but behind closed doors! The FIFA World Cup is second to none ( billions/trillions of dollars) in television world. Watch and follow how the corrupt scandals of game fixing in Italy are addressed in the on-coming months, and try and put the puzzle together! And remember...nobody CHEATS...as long as everyone gets their moneys' worth....ask the WWF stars and their promoters!!!

thats the point it wasn't a foul at all, the aussie didn't even make contact with the italian player. they should NEVER have been given that penalty against australia. Australia may have then went on to beat them, after all italy aren't exactly mind-blowingly amazing.
This is why we need video-playback as standard in football matches.

There weren't no cheats. It's impossible even to think it in a World Cup Tournament. This is the soccer and that's all, made by a mixture of good players and good luck, always. Many times Italy deserved to win in the past and has lost.

Thye were lucky against Oz otherwise they were the only team wiht the bottle to stand all the negative publicity. Give them credit. There are 31 other teams at that tournament would give everything to have achieved what the Italians have. So like it or not they are in the record books.

referees are calling games the way they want to and as long as that goes on, international games will ALWAYS end with controversial calls. at least they did a much better job than the horrible Holland vs. Portugal game that was one of the worst in World Cup history.
