i've gone to Palawan and thought it was breath-taking. We took a Philippine Airlines flight going there, although you could try Cebu Pacific Airlines, which I think is cheaper than Philippine Airlines. We stayed at Hotel Fleuris (Fleury? I forgot the name... but the name is somewhere along that line), which is a nice hotel, even though it's kind of small. It had a great shuttle service, which can drive you to and from your destinations in the capital city of Palawan. (Note: This hotel is found in Puerto Prinsesa, the capital city of the province of Palawan).
We toured the Underground River, which is uber-nice, though, going there may be unpleasant due to bumpy roads and long periods stuck in the car. We also went island-hopping by just renting a boat and going to different islands (staying on one for abt half an hour and then transferring to another island). As for dining places, we ate at the Vietnamese Village, which was supposedly reknowned, good and all, but found it to be not that satisfactory to the taste buds. Instead, try Kinabutz's (I was sure this was the spelling, but still try asking the locals once you go there). It serves Filipino fare. Normally, I'm not crazy abt filipino food, but this place exceeded my expectations. Order the sisig there. It's quite delicious, to be honest.
You should try, like what one answered to your question, Coron. I know someone who went there. He said that when he rode the boat, you could ask the bangkero (Filipino term for boatman, the one who operates the bangka or boat) to catch some live seafood for you. He tried eating raw jellyfish with a dash of vinegar and found that it was like eating jelly. Try El Nido too, as what another had replied to your question. I saw it in commercials and I think it's beautiful. If you're an extravangant spender, though, try Amanpulo. I think Tom Cruise went there already. So if you're a beach kind of person, you'll definitely love Palawan.

Palawan is a remote place and it's not really that cheap because everything needs to be hauled in. Also it is a polular spot for sportfishermen on vacation. You'll probably fly into Iloilo to get there anyway. Want cheap ? Go to Villia Igang on Guimeras. It's an eco resort with nice beaches, coral caves and nature trails with rooms starting at P500 ($10) a night. No , places like this do not spend money on a web adress so do not waste your time surfing for it. Want the phone number ? Contact me via e mail to get it. Hope you can speak tagolog or deal with spending a little more using a travel agency here.

Not many frills, but it is a decent place to stay in that price range.

Stay at Dos Palmas Resort because it is the best place to stay in Palawan but when you are on a budget, you can stay at any of the hotels at Puerto Prinsesa City. The hotels thereat are accessible to all the attractions particularly the famous underground river and islands in Palawan.

Where in Palawan are you going? Puerto Princesa, the capital is located centrally and it can be a bit expensive: airfare (or boat fare) plus lodgings.

If you are on a budget and not too picky, I recommend visiting the islands at the northern tip of Palawan, specifically Busuanga Islands where Coron Island is one of. It is a great place for diving (lots of sunken ships and other great dive spots), swimming (hidden twin lagoons) and trekking. Food is cheap but delicious. As for lodgings, you can ask any local and they will direct you to any of the cozy, clean and affordable lodging places (homes turned into homestays/apartments). You can also hire a guide to help you go island hopping and diving.

My friends and I went to Coron a couple of years back and our weekend stay (left Manila Friday afternoon, arrived in Coron Saturday early morning, back in Manila by Monday morning) for less than Php 5,000.00/pax inclusive of boat fare from Manila and back, accommodation, full board meals, island hopping tour with diving (bring your own diving equipment or rent one).

You'll definitely love it there! You get to experience the beauty of Palawan at a very affordable price.

try northern Palawan, Coron to be exact. It is like going to El Nido at a lower price.
