I'm trying to make my soon-to-be fiance finish school and think realistically about his career. He's 23 and has never taken anything seriously in his life. His parents give him thousands of dollars each month and has never had to earn his own living. This is a huge disadvantage w/me trying to work on him.. but how do you do this?

Here we go again, another female wanting to change a man.
Read me loud and clear lady,...If you don't love him the way he is, leave him. Look for someone who fits your list. (Yeah, good luck with that one).
You can't change anybody, get it?

You can't change someone, but you can work to bring out the best in them. So, try to realize which one it is before you go further.

If he respects you and your opinion he will listen.

Just be sure to hear him out. Listen to his side. Maybe he's afraid of getting married before he has a job or has finished college. And, knows huge expenses are on the way for the wedding and the after wedding stuff. Plus, he knows you want a spetacular ring.

He's probably stressed, but afraid to tell you about it. And, his parents know he needs the money.

Sit him down and have a long one sided talk about growing up. Because it sounds like he has A LOT of growing up to do. I mean, do you want to be w/a guy who can't support you by himself. What happens when his parents die?

If his parents are old, I'd suggest sitting back and waiting. If not I'd think of an expensive hobby and suddenly imply that it was his responsibility to pay for it.
