My opinion is R.E.O Speedwagon. Their ability to use conventional acoustic sounding instruments together with the modern rock sound makes them a perfect rock band.

sabbath was the pioneering metal band but as far a rock band goes.....i'd have to go with motley crue cause they ARE rock music....there are other great bands out there like aerosmith and zeppelin and KISS but i go w/the crue.
