Well India is a place where fine arts is born.In terms of instruments they have many Veena which is a string instrument which is played by a goddess and Sitar which is also string instrument,flute,wind instrument,mirdagam and Tabla and many more which I m not so sure abt that.Google as and Indian music and I m sure u can get other valuable information.

The major ones commonly known to westerners are the sitar, which is a multi-stringed instrument used for melodies (which are in quarter tones, unlike western music, which is in half tones), the tabla, a small drum that has many different possible tones, the tanpura, shennai, mridangam, and harmonium. For more information, see the link below. The different musical instruments of India are very interesting, and make wonderful music. The sitar is usually played by a man, and the tanpura by a woman, to add body to the music. The second link is a much more comprehensive list. Sitars are great.
They use them in some Beatles songs.
