In any soccer game there's always an exchange of words and most of the time they aren't the best ones....what ever it was that Marco Materazzi said to Zidane it doesn't matter now the thing is that as a captain he acted very stupid and unprofessional. Now Materazzi showed composure for not retaliating and I think he showed who was smarter than the 2. Zidane has a history of red cards for some intentional fouls in the past so I wasn't surprised that this happened. No excuse for him.

Never mind what was said. Whatever the provocation Zidane headbutt of Matarazzi is inexcusable, a gross violation of football rules. This senseless assault is sheer stupidity - a moment of insanity that ends the once glittering career of a living legend - from hero to zero.
I have admired Zizou since France won the World Cup. Not anymore. He will be remembered as a French footballer who disgraced himself, let down his team mates and his country. Raymond Domenech by sarcastically applauding the redcard offence joins the rank of the dishonourable, unfit to lead any team.

IT does matter what he said.
'According to several very well informed sources from the world of football, it would seem that the Italian player Marco Materazzi called Zinedine Zidane a 'dirty terrorist',' SOS Racism said in a statement.
and on english news it was said materazzi went on to say he wishes zidanes mother to die and f*** off (his mother was sick that day)
ZIDANE HAD EVERY RIGHT TO DO IT, I KNOW I WOULD HAVE TOO

Zidane is thinking what public statement to make: Apologize with sincerity the way General Patton did in front of his troops for striking a soldier. Patton, in the movie, asked for God's help to say he was sorry.

LOL@U R BALD... :)
Whether it was an insult directed at Zizou or at his mother,or even if it was a religious insult, THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR ANYONE (no,not even zizoz) TO HEAD BUTT ON THE PITCH...its an automatic foul,an automatic red-card...anyone knows that! So,regardless of what Materazzi may have said, as CAPTAIN of the team, the guy shouldve acted more responsibly...he carries the weight of teammates, fans and millions of french people on his shoulders...and his quickness to brush them off for a selfish act is so....pathetic...
He's a grown man..he shouldve known better.

It doesn't matter what Materazzi said. Zidane, being the "oh so grea soccer virtuoso" should have stayed professional enough to keep his cool. He did somethign stupid and got caught. So all of you out there stop crying for him.
