Hi Emma,
I hope you will have a great trip!!! are you going alone?
Anyway, I am sure it will all work out fine. Make sure you get at the airport in time - at least one hour before take-off for a domestic (US) flight, and at least 2 hours before for an international flight. Take with you the ticket and passport (or identity document).
Once you get there, check on the departure screens (you'll see them everywhere) the flight - you will find the flight code on your ticket (usually two letters for the airline, then a number for the actual flight, ex. BA4756 would be a British Airways flight). On the screen, it will also mention the check in counter - that is where you have to go, to register your luggage. Remember, no more than 2 suitcases!!! and only one small carry-on. BTW, pack in the carry on some essential you need in case your suitcase gets lost (usually it doesn't, and if it does it is delivered to you one day late... but in the meanwhile, you still need some stuff!!!). Also, pack in your carry on valuables, medications you take, money, jewelry. As it is your first time, you may want to ask for a window seat, so you can watch outside!!!
After registration, you will leave your luggage with the airline (much lighter!!!), and you will go to the waiting area - you can have a snack, or buy a packed lunch for the plane. Don't expect too much from the food on the plane, it is usually not very tasty... then you can proceed to the departure gates - the hostess will have given you the place and the time when to be there. Be on time!!!! the plane will NOT wait for you.
And have fun!!!

Well, first of all if you don't have a ticket...then go to the airport to the airline of your choice and purchase a ticket. Once you have obtained the ticket, go to check-in where you check-in your luggage ( if you have luggage you want to check in) and then get a boarding pass. Once you have a boarding pass then go through the security check and find the gate at which your plane takes off. Once you get to the take where the plane is suppose to take off from, ask the attendent if your at the right gate and then wait until they ask you to board the plane. Normally this is done with people with small children and disability first, then either seat number or group number (which would be on your boarding pass). Once you are on the plane your set for your trip.
Furthermore, if you are on a trip where you have to change planes be careful to make sure you have enough time to get to your next airplane/gate and make sure you have all your boarding pass, ID/ passport (if an international flight), money, and plane tickets handy at all times.
