Your question borders on xenophobia. Most first and second generation German Japanese Russian Italian Scottish Philipino Scandinavian Egyptian Jewish Polish Native American Pacific Islanders Arabic Indian Turkish Greek Yugoslavian Checz English etc etc. immigrants have a difficult time learning English and continue to speak in their native tongue. There is no US National Language. There is still a variety of languages spoken in homes and family businesses across the US. In places with names like Los Angeles, San Antonio, Santa Fe, Paso Robles etc. People have been speaking Spanish longer than English.

Who is this mysterious "They"? And why are they almost always wrong? There are occasional roles that call for fluency in a foreign language, very "occasional" and a fair number of those go to actors who are speaking phonetically and have no clue as to how to speak the language. If you audition for a role in English , nobody is going to say "Oh, she was perfect but we can't cast her because she doesn't speak Cantonese".

More you know better chances you have to get every thing in life not only in the movie's field. More skills you have more ability you have to improvise and feel more confident on developing a better work that it will be expressed on the screen.
Movie is one of the art's form and as you know, art is an international's expression of talent. More ways you have on express yourself in art more talented you will be considered, more parts on plays, more characters you will be able to play. A good example of art expression was Picasso, he could express his art in a vairity of styles even being able to create a new style so was Tiffany. For example, the language most used for business is English, if you want to succeed on this filed you must speak english.
In general Europeans speak at least 2 languages (the art and business in Europe have both a very heavy value in their culture).
As more globalized the world become as more become the languages, therefore a person whom can only communicate on one language will have its chances narrowed by the future unless this person has no great ambitions and decided to stay part of a small group, perhaps a second language skill won't be needed for while because in the future the tendency has shown it will be essencial.
I can ensure you from my own experience the learning of another language besides my first language revealed or expressed me another way of seeing things, that's why must be so important in Art. Languages teaches us another way of thinking it's like develope an area of your brain you didn't know existed or had experienced before, you are introduced to a new world better a new way to rationalize.
Different from what we think before we learn another language, we don't only learn another way of says things, we actually learn another form of expression and thinking, it's much more than just speaking another language.
I read an article ( I am not sure about its veracity) that tells people whom speaks more than one language have its reflex (involuntary action or response) faster than those whom speaks only one language.
Answering your question, if the learning of another language is requiered on getting you on the big screen, think this learning it will be requiered for you to get a better position on any area of your professional or not professional life. A second language it will for sure get you wider oportunities and better positions on any field of your life if you don't want to limit yourself to only one group.
