Yes, he IS still fondly remembered. He brought us so many joy and wonderful moments.
Zidane was insulted by Materazzi (I heard from the radio that the Italian football player insulted Z's mother). What would you do if some jerk said that to you???!!!
Zidane knew very well that he was being filmed by a dozen of cameras and if he did that, the insult must be really mean and nasty.
If I were Zidane, I would FINISH the match, and then punched the sh** out of Meterazzi.
And why NOBODY talks about Meterazzi as if he was innocent????

We must all remember that despite being a world football star, Zidane is still a human being. I am sure what Materazzi said was really nasty which blood-boiled Zidane. If it was about race or religion, it was nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, Materazzi should be shamed! It was a lowest act of desperation, verbally insulting another player.
I do hope Zidane tells the world what was said to him to clear his name.
Nevertheless, I assure you Zidane WILL still be fondly rememebered.

THIS IS NOT HIS ONLY SAVAGE ACT...
HE STOMPED ON A SAUDI'S LEG "A LA MARCUS VICK" (FOR THOSE WHO WATCH COLLEGE FOOTBALL) IN THE 1998 WORLD CUP
HE ALSO HEADBUTTED A GUY FROM HAMBURG WHILE PLAYING FOR JUVENTUS!!!
HE IS NOT A GREAT GUY AND TO HELL WITH HIS MEMORIES..
HE IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE AN OVERRATED BULLY OF A PLAYER WHO MUST HAVE HIS WAY!!! LOOK AT HIS SHIRT..SEE THAT STAR..HE BOUGHT THAT TOO!!!
HE WAS SOOOO PISSED THAT MATERAZZI SCORED HIS GOAL AND THAT HE MADE THE COMMENT THAT HE DID..SO HE THREW OUT THE RULE BOOKS AND NAILED THE GUY...BUT NOT BECAUSE HE HADN'T DONE IT BEFORE..
DON'T GIRLS SAY IT BEST..ONCE A CHEATER ALWAYS A CHEATER...AWWW THAT ISN'T FAIR ABOUT ZIDAINE THOUGH...
BULLCRAP!!!! HE IS THE PROOF..ONLY THIS TIME..ONCE A HEADBUTTER ALWAYS A HEADBUTTER..OR IS THAT A BUTTHEAD??
YOU HOLD IT AGAINST ZIDAINE BECAUSE IT IS THE THIRD TIME.HE GOT A RED CARD AT THIS LEVEL..NOT THE FIRST AND ONLY!!!!!

Yes, Zidane would always be remembered as a great player. He made a costly mistake, but that doesn't make his career any less remarkable - one moment of madness can't erase a lifetime of achievement.

As the years pass on, we will eventually forgive him for his moment of insanity. The annals of football will praise him for the greatness of his footballing skills... remember the "hand of God"? Maradona is still considered a great player despite all the on the field and off the field scandals.
In the end, the genius of Zizou's feet will be immortalised.

We still don't know what the Italian player said to Zidane, but it must have been pretty bad for him to do that. He is still a great player for me!!!

even if no one remembers him i will remember him.
humans are very funny they only want to remember that one instant and forget the hundreds of good playmanship that Zinedine demonstrated he was a good player and one small spur of anger does not have to spoil his good name.
If rooney scores the winner in 2010 world cup am preety sure everyone will forget about the christiano Ronaldo incident so why should you hold it against Zinedine?
