They're just labels. I don't have a problem with them per se.

What bugs me is when publishers try to pigeon hole books that shouldn't be labeled - or worse yet, reject them because they're not "sale-able." Some of the best books I've ever read defy labeling. Having genres sometimes promotes the rehashing of the same dreck over and over. (I'm not saying ALL genre fiction is like that, but it easier to abuse the conventions when writing genre.)

If anything, Fiction doesn't have enough sub-genres. You forgot Historical Fiction, by the way.

No. It's a way to sort fiction and make books easier to find. What would you prefer, browsing your favorite genre or having a whole long shelf of random books to search through til you find one you like?

Nope. I think it helps readers find the kind of writing that most appeals to them. Efficiency is a good thing and sub-genres help define types of writing.

Maybe, but I also think that everything has too many classification XD I get confused about what section to put my Yahoo questions in =P

yes!!! but it makes it easyer to find a book to read or a movie to watch.
