"Our foreign policy is in shambles. At a time terrorists will soon have nuclear weapons in suitcases to set off in our subways and nuclear plants, we have failed miserably in the war in Afghanistan, created a full blown civil war in Iraq that is now engulfing the entire Middle East, and completely failing in the war on terrorism which is causing a quantum leap in the recruitment of terrorists and suicide bombers all over the world, and pushing us further daily into an unprecedented nuclear crisis … and no one asks why …

The statement is partly true, partly not. Policy mistakes, strategic mistakes, tactical mistakes, war-crimes that were allowed to happen because of poor leadership, arrogance at all levels, and bad diplomacy, have all made the US incredibly unpopular all over the world. At the same time we've stretched our military very thin, and sapped the Federal budget. So militarily, economically, politically, we have lost a lot of our power in the world.

The "nuclear weapons in suitcases" thing is a myth. We could build one with the technology we have, but a terrorist is going to have a much larger, crude device. Nor is that the most practical way to smuggle a nuclear device in.

Iraq is not in a "full blown civil war" although the situation there is very bad.

"No one asks why" is complete rhetoric. A lot of Americans, conservative and liberal, Democrat and Republican, question various aspects of the war.

Anyway, go ahead and blame the idiots who got us into the situation, but it's easy to complain. Let's hear a constructive suggestion for how to make things better. Pulling out now is just about the worst thing we could do because like it or not, we are committed. If we leave it's going to be complete disaster, and we will only embolden the terrorists further by making them think they won.

People ask why, believe me. I think that you are just proving how much it is being asked. Everyone is going to question a war, no matter how wrong or right it is. I always wonder if all of the people bashing the government and the President. and the war, and the soldiers, etc... would be doing so if the war was being fought on our own soil. I personally don't think so. People make mistakes, we are all human --- no one is perfect. Sure the war isn't going great, but hopefully what we have done will help change Iraq and Afghanistan's futures. I mean it wasn't like this war was going to change the world in a couple of months - this isn't for us, but rather it is to make a better world for our children and their children.

well, the opposition would say that we have annhialated terrorists where we have found them, that dictators posessing nuclear weapons have been toppled and that the vanguard of the united states has been defended, the american people are sage once again. Terrorists are too scared to make attacks and complete amatures are being caught on american soil making the most stupid of mistakes, showing the lack of coordination and confusion which our military has caused amongst terrorist cells.

neither are completely true - foreign policy should be as weak as possible, because as soon as it is strong, then we depend on other countries, and getting involved with foreign nations unnecessarily leads to destruction (at least says George Washington).

No, it is not true. It is an opinion. As such it cannot be seen as true or untrue. Only facts can.

They teach this in elementary school. When you are old enough, you will be able to tell the difference. Until then, you may wish to leave complex issues like this to people who have earned a place in adult society.
