It's that one dreadful step that you have to take. I've been only once in my life and it was not such a bad experience.

Well, I think the relief that you will get from discovering that you are perfectly healthy (or diseases detected early) will compensate for the nerves you are getting now. Do not worry or be embarrassed because believe me, GYNs have seen EVERYTHING. They are the ones who assist women in labor and do some operations so a check-up is nothing to them.
Relax. Plus, if you're tense, that pap smear will take longer, believe me. (But the pap is not that bad, just a little uncomfortable).
=)

First time is always harrowing. Almost most women felt the same as you. Just focus your mind that your gynae is only personally interested in your illness not your body as he sees so many of tthem a day. Focus too on just getting better and that is the only possible way to get help. The consultation wont last long and soon be over and you will wonder to yourself ...'well that was not as bad as I thought it would be' We all did. Lots of luv and good luck.
LMAO Have a giggle at Artmans response and cheer up!

Just set your self an appointment, to prepare your self before your appointment, get your self to remember one thing..... they see many many of what they are going to see of you on the daily basis. Get a male gyn, you never know about those women gyn's.... gotta ask your self "why would they wanna see that everyday" hehehe Really though I see only male obgyn's. They are considerate of how uncomfortable you are without you having to say anything. They tell you what they are going to do before they do it. If you get embarrassed during your exam, just picture him naked.... you'll be to busy laughing hard to be embarrassed anymore, instead you will be thinking "how embarrassed he would be if he only knew what you was thinking". Which will make you laugh even harder!

as a man, I figure you're lucky- a prostate exam is just the least pleasant experience you can imagine- kinda like going to the GYN, but more like running into some of those an*l probing aliens- just don't make the mistake the lady did when she grabbed a washcloth to freshen up before her appointment- and it was the one her 5 year old daughter had stashed glitter in ;)

I hate going, in fact so much so I waited to go till I was 20!!!
Then I only went because my best friend tricked me into it!! Turned out it was not as bad as I thought.-- I personally will only see female doctor's, otherwise I don't think I could strip down to a strange man! Besides, how could a guy know exactly what having a period cramp is like!!????? Bite the bullet, just get your best girlfriend to go with you and do it. No worries!

If your afraid of a male doctor request female, and if that's not the case ask your mother to go with you. There's nothing to be embarrassed about, a male doctor has to have a female nurse in the room with you during the pelvic exam, and this is what they went to school for so nothing surprises them.

You just have to suck it up and call. Get over it because you gotta realize almost all girl problems get worse without attention. The longer you wait, the worse the visit. It helps to find a woman OBGYN, at least for your first visits.

Just go for it. It will be over before you know it. Besides, if you NEED to see one you NEED to see one... better the embarassment than making your problem worst!

Just do it. Unless you have an extra arm growing out of your hoo-haa, your stuff is no different than the hundred other women they've seen that week. What seems incredibly personal and private to you, is just everyday work for them.
