12 letters. Multiply 8 by 60 and get 480. Then you divide 480 by 40 and get 12.

If she takes no time in between said letters. Works at the same pace and takes no breaks then (8) 60 min hours =480 min then divided by 40 min per letter.
Is 12 letters per 8 hour day.
Assuming of course they're different form letters.

8 hours = 8 * 60 mins = 480 mins
480 mins / 40 mins = 12
she can type 12 letters in an 8 hour day.
(side note: but now that you have cut & paste technology, why does she have to retype everything anyway?)
