haha. nope. Heat does not affect the amount of melanin in skin(the thing that determines your skin color). Skin tans are affected only by light rays, so heat rays don't matter. If you feel your skin is getting darker, it's either your imagination, or the heat in your apartment is drying out your skin. I recommend using a moisture replenishing lotion to help you out.

No, heat does not tan you.

A sun burn happens when your skin absorbs UV rays. The UV "radiation" damages the cells in your dermis. Your dermis is the inner-layer of living skin tissue that's supplied by a network of tiny blood vessles known as the "capillary bed".

To fix the damage caused by UV radiation, your body dialates the capliary bed and this is why your skin turns pink. The pink isn't actually a burn, it's your bodies REACTION to the burn. This is why your suburned-skin turns white when you press it, and then pink again when the blood returns.

To keep your body from suffering fatal damage from sun burns, there are little sensors in your skin that detect UV rays. These sensors stimulate your dermis to produce melanin, which is a pigment.

Over a short time, the new cells in your dermis are colored with the pigment. As your skin sheds, your pale epidermis is lost and these colored cells become your epidermis, giving you a tan. This pigment then absorbs the UV rays in the sunlight and prevents them from reaching and damaging your dermis. This is why your tan will only go so dark. After it reaches a certain level, the amount of UV rays reaching your dermis drops off. This leaves your glands unstimulated and they stop producing pigment.

The key to all of this is UV Rays. Heat alone does not have anything to do with it. So if you're hoping to get a tan while slaving over the short-order grill at your local Denny's, you're out of luck.

No it does not. Heat has nothing to do with how well you tan.
