I don't claim to be a huge fan of JFK, but I think he made a good point here. I think what he was saying was, don't depend on the government (your country) to make you a better person. Be a great person, and our country will become even greater because of what you have done.

This is the greatest country in the world. We should everything we can, not only to keep our way of life, but to make it better too. We are the what makes up the country, don't take this country for granted.

although JFK made that famous, it was actualy a line taken from a dean at whatever college he went to. it was originaly "ask not wahy (school name) can do for you, ask whay you can do for (school name)... ANYWAY... right or wrong has nothing to do with it, but yes. logicaly speaking, the more you do for your country, the more it can focus on other things and therefore benefit you in the long run. every little bit helps when you think of how many people live in the country.

That wasn't the question. Furthermore, people who don't like doing something for this country-America, they should get out of it. This is the greatest country in the world.

I feel that your explanation of your question shows how selfish and shallow you are. "Ask not what your country can do for you, But what you can do for your country" Refers mainly to the sense of patriotism that was lost during that era, due to racial tensions, the cold war with the Soviet Union, and the looming problems in Vietnam. What J.F.K. was wanting all Americans to do was to stand behind him as president, but behind the decisions that he had made during his administration. It had nothing to do with the bible. Let me ask you this, if China, Mexico, and N. Koreans decided to invade our borders, what would you do?

A better question would have been
Ask not what your family can do for you
but what you can do for your family.
isnt that why we live? and breathe?? so we can be around those we love?
