I don't think it would make much sense to have a federation of the planets in the solar system. By the time we have colonized these planets, another 1000 years will have passed (assuming we last that long, of course). So the federation would have to be between planets in our solar system and the planets in another solar system, the closest possible one being 5 light years away (assuming they have similar planets and lifestyle). What would be the purpose of such a federation? Protection again whom? Why would I be safer if federated with a planet 5, 10, 15, 100 light years away? Anyway, travel over such distances is maybe another 1000 years away. Just travel within our own galaxy, not to mention other galaxies, will probably take at leastanother 5000 years to accomplish. These years are just too far away from our current concerns and problems to be worth thinking about--unless, of course, you're making a TV series about the distant future, like 7894 or 8321.

Before planets can federate they have to have independent governments. I can't wait -- literally, I'll die first -- before the first planet or spaceship or colony declares itself independent of Earth, it'll be like 1776 all over again. It will probably re-associate as a trading partner, though, just like all of England's old colonies. Whether that becomes a federation or just an ally, and what happens after that, depends on too many things to predict. A lot of the reasons why nations band together or fight has to do with geography and competing over the same resources, not so much of an issue between planets.

I wouldn't be surprised if there will be one, but not with the same name, no offense. It will probably be a longer, cheesier, name.

I believe in other worlds and creatures because if God (from a religious point of view) could create humans on earth, why not create other beings on other planets that are more intelligent than us and instead of making war, why not peace?

If you look at it from a somewhat scientific view, it's reasonable that evolution in other galaxies has occurred due to things like a Big Bang or something like that causing life to start and climates to change. The intelligence that we humans have will probably help us in discovering this life and if other planets have governments and the like, the Planets will start one so that none has more power than the other.

Unfortunately, i dont think so, since earth is the mother planet all planets made inhabitable will probably be claimed in the "name of earth" in a spectacular flurry of video and media while the first man to go to an inhabitable planet besides earth steps down. All planets will have population and trade directly tied to earth, in my opinion. And don't even start with banding together against aliens...

Sorry, but I believe there will NOT be.

Let's look at the basis of intelligence.

A wolf is more intelligent than a sheep.

A lion is more intelligent than a gazelle.

Being a predator drives intelligence up. Being a prey animal means you only have to know how to run. Predators gain intelligence.

Using my fuzzy logic, it is more appropriate that predatory species gain space travel faster than non-predatory species.

Our first encounter with a space faring race will result in war.

Sure, in 400 years when we have the capability of warp drive and make a lot of friends on different planets something like that is bound to be formed. It will be as effective as our current United Nations.

If we cant make peace on this Planet, how are we going to make peace, when the "Earthlings" start going to the stars, and then rebelling against paying taxes or commodities to Earth, because its the "Home Planet" and we have to pay "tribute to Ceasar" LOL!!

I wish you well..

Nope. We'd have to discover a planet that is inhabited by other life forms first.

uh it really depends if humans find life on other planets... first we need to build a starship enterprise.. we're about 200 years away from that i think
