I got 3 and I recieved up to $7,000. You don't necessarily have to win. I was at a club at my High School for 4 years now. It is called CSF (california Scholarhsip Fund). Basically it is a volunteer program, we didn't even do anything. If your in it for 4 years straight, you earn $4,000.The others were recived from writing essays.

Online and Nationwide scholarships are often scams where you won't get anything. You aren't really going to get a scholarship for being left handed, or decendents of George Washington or any other crazy scholarship. Your best bet is to first choose the school you want to go to or at least narrow it down to 2 or 3. Talk to a high school counselor about local scholarships, sometimes local clubs and organizations give local students scholarships. Then fill out the application for free financial aid from the government at www.fafsa.ed.gov or you can get a packet from high school couselors and college financial aid offices. Many people qualify for some type of aid and they don't know it. If nothing else they will tell you about low interest government loans and work study. Next contact the financial aid office at the school you plan to attend and ask them about scholarships, many schools have incoming freshman scholarships. Some even carry over year to year as long as you get good grades. After you have attended college for a year and picked a major, check with the people in that department. Schools often have departmental scholarships such as teacher scholarships, or business scholarships. Be suspicious of companies that want to "help" you find scholarships or financial aid, ask yourself what is in it for them.

In high school, I applied for 2 art scholarships and child of public school employee scholarship. I got $1000 from one of the art ones and $500 from the school one. These were local so the chances are much more in my favor.
Now in college, I was awarded $14,000 (private art school) but I still can't go because the school is 40,000 a year includind room, board, supplies. I also applied for some national ones and didn't get anything. I think actually getting a scholarship is very hard, so many people are in the game.
