Is the reason why Americans are so introspective is because we have everything we want right here? We have a wide range of climates and entertainment at our disposal. I say, when you don't have to look beyond your borders for literally everything you want, you don't look beyond your borders at all. True or not?

Ex: Look at the World Cup? We could care a less, and the world loves it. Look at Am. football, just the opposite. Do we just not give a rats azz b/c we have everything right here and see no need to travel for it? I could use other examples, but am running out of space.

America is certainly not the world, though I think American's think so.

Last year I travelled through Europe. It was a great experience I met alot of people that will be friends for life. Though europe is not vastly different to were I am from seeing some of the wonders of the world really opened my eyes.

On my travels I met alot of Australians, Italians, Pols, Scots and Canadians. In one whole year I met only four Americans. That really summed up Americas self obsessed attitude and while I know not all American's are like this I believe the vast majority are.

This is a great dissappointment as I believe a happy life should be filled with life long learning. Experiencing all you can while you can. But don't be scared of travel America after all you can always find a Starbucks.

I agree with dorkchop.

We have everything we need to fuel our mass consumption lifestyle except cheap energy sources and cheap labor. Then there's also more of the world's consumption dollars (including demand for arms to feul civil wars going on in 30 or so countries, mostly in Africa). But we can get that stuff overseas so long as the corporations can keep the politicians in their pockets to spend our taxes on military to protect foreign investments and get the WTO, IMF, and World Bank to enforce trade policies that force developing countries to stay dependent and desperately poor.

Good thing 8 mega-corporations own 90% of the mass media in this country, otherwise we might start hearing about what we do to the rest of the world on the nightly news.

By the way, we can take our democracy back from corporate ownership if we regulate, reform, and rewrite the corporate charter. Check out the movie, "The Corporation".

While I'm interested in what happens beyond these borders, I'm not interested enough to travel beyond them. It's not that I think America is "all that", just don't care to see or experience the rest of the world in person.

America is a Continent , United States is a Country ...

You dont have everything , that's why millions of people from the Unites States go to different countries to have fun and enjoy .

Sadly the people from the United States live whit something that no other country has , fear and double moral .

Fear from the " terrorist " the bombs , the missiles from Korea , and all the media crap that you consume 24/7 .

Double moral , example , all the people gets mad for a nipple on Television , but you like to see Violence , gore , deaths , etc , etc , also you enjoy to bomb other countries , and say ; WOW ! THAT ROCKS ! NUKE ' EM' ALL ! AMERICA RULZ '

My 2 cents !

Because America is lazy and stubborn. America is the only place in the world to Americans. Americana's don't even see the problems in their own country, let alone the world...
