two of my cousins are adopted. my aunt has many different mental problems and could never take care of herslef let alone children. My other aunt(her sister) adopted both kids from birth and you will never meet a more loving family. I think that as long as there are loving family memeber to take care of these kids it is not exactly a problem. However, I do think it is a problem that so many people who have kids should not have kids. Plus, from experience it is not always the best idea that your parents raise you so I am glad that there is the option of families to help out becuase no matter what happens your family should be by your side. good topic by the way!

Why do you see this as a problem? In my view that is what extended family's are all about! As long as we are on the topic . What would you suggest I do with the three teenagers who just moved into my family? Their mom is on crack. They were raised from birth by their grandmother. My friend [their g-mother]is dying. You get to guess who their fathers are cause we have no clue! They had a choice and so did we and the best answer we could come up with is they will live with us. We will cover their expenses. We will and always have love them. Where is the problem? Would you rather we turned them over to the state so you can pay for them? Or turn them out to the streets? I know there is no simple answer and forgive me if I was a little harsh but it is a very harsh world we live in and if you personally are not part of the solution then you are the problem and move out of my way so I can get things done!

as a young adult raising my cousins new born i feel the stress of being a twenty year old single mother and yes its hard since she is not actually my daughter but when i look at it i say to myself where would i rather this Innocent Lil girl that i love to pieces be, with her crack head mother who cannot seem to recover, some stranger or a ward of the state, or with me where i know that she will be safe and loved. The problem is not relatives raising other peoples children its children being placed in places where there is danger or not enough love , where would you rather a child be?

In China, grandparents take care of children while parents work. You can see grandparents every day accompanying children to and from school. Parents step back in to the picture at night and on weekends. This gives retired people--the retirement age is 55 for men and 50 for women, though that is changing upwards--something to do with their time. Often, grandparents live in the same house as the parents anyway, and in addition to taking care of children may do cooking and cleaning work for their (usually free) rent.

In the US, many kids are taken care of by strangers. I'd prefer my children to be cared for by grandparents instead of strangers in day care centers. Maybe instead of playing Canasta or Bridge all day, or shuffleboard, or watching TV, our elderly relatives could take care of kids.

I don't think it's a problem at all. It's only a problem if the relatives are abusive, but parents can be abusive too, so it's really no different.

And, by the way, Yo Momma, with your solution the child would suffer, not the parents.

It is too late to address this problem. the problem began with the parents of the people who are now leaving their kids with anyone who will take them.
They should have done a better job of teaching their kids, responsiblity, dependabilty, and unconditional love, with out the dr spock crud. I just think most people are spoiled rotten and selfish. They have not thoughts but for themselves and how to get what they want . Right now.

By minding your own business dumbsh*t. The worse problem in the world is anybody who presupposes that they have achieved such moral superiority and understanding that they are equipped to start solving "the problem of . . ."

Most people in this world are just looking to live out their lives, have a few somewhat meaningful relationships, have a good meal every now and then, maybe go an vacation a few times, try not to work themselves to death, etc. etc. etc. etc. and die.

The last thing we need is some stupid*ss like a politician or an overly concerned citizen wandering around in the imaginary world of their mind coming up with highschool solutions to real world distress.

SHUT UP!!!!! DUMB*SS!!!!!!!

How do we solve the problem of my extreme desire to drive your head through a f*cking brick wall?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

well i dont kno if its an issue, in most of these cases being raised by their relatives is far better that being raised by their parents. if parents are allowing their children to be raised by some one else the kids probably are safer where they are

That's how we're addressing the problem. The kids are not the problem, the parents are the problem.

Better relatives than strangers that we have to give a check to. Personally I'm for mandatory temporary sterilization for those who can't provide for their children, but that idea's not catching on very well.
