Yes. This is the age of entitlement. I hear it at work, in the neighborhood, in stores, I see it on the highway "it's my right...."
It is my right. Never mind about the person whos rights you are stepping on, who you are hurting. So go down the street with the speakers turned up at three am, it is your right. So talk nasty on Yahoo! Answers to an 11 year old who had a medical problem, free speech is your right. You can say can say anything you want to, when you want to, free speech. Never mind that it is rude, racist, sexist, degrading, it's free speech. When is speech not free? When you threaten the president of the country, or if you talk about terorism in the line at the airport.
So if we can say and do anything we want, yes we are rude. A gentleman held a door for me at the store the other day, I was so surprised! So was he when I said,"oh, thank you!" He was a older man.
I was in the grocery store, a mom and her son were at the end of the isle. I walked by, and the kid stiffened up his body and rammed my shoulder. He looked to be about 10 or 11. His mother asked him , calmly, "why did you do that?" He shrugged his shoulders, laughed, and looked at me. The look said it all HaHa, I can do any thing I want!" His mother did not spare me a glance. No apology from her, no punishment, no making him apologize, nothing. She is the problem, she has not bothered to teach the kid manners, or politeness, or respect for elders. Instead she taught him to be violent, it's ok to hurt people, there will be no punishment. And to rub the other person's nose in the violence..
Yes, there is more rudeness. The parents work, they do not teach the kids. They want the school system to teach them. The school system doesn't teach them.
I am amazed at the number of kids running around my neighborhood at night, midnight, 2am, on skateboard, in gangs, alone. Just the other night I heard a horn sounding at 2:15 am. It was the neighbor. He had seen some kids playing around the very elderly next door neighbor's house, and was coralling them to see what they were doing. The older kid looked to be about 12. Where are the parents, they don't care where the kids are, so they really don't care if they have manners.
I have manners and I use them. I say please, thank you. I try to stay out of people's way. I needed to lock my car at 7am the other morning. I use the key instead of the electronic key that would have sounded the horn. The neighbors were asleep. Do they have the same courtesy, no.
Oh no. I got on the soap box again. Thanx for this question.

I didn't think so for quite a while after 9/11. There seemed a general favorable change in the community behavior of most people. It tagged along with the increase in patriotism. But, whatever it was, it has faded away. People seem extremely rude lately. Do you think it could be the high gas prices? Everybody acts like they're being ripped off everywhere all the time.

because no individual must be awesome to absolutely everyone anymore. Do you spot human beings assisting human beings? Do you spot associates contained in the backyard speaking? we've mum and dad who've to artwork 2.5 jobs to stay alongside of the expenditures, the children are living house and on my own, won't be able to bypass to the park, no individual there to visual show unit them and mom is operating so no conversations. television has replaced being social, why bypass out and make friends once you could swap on a television and characteristic everyones drama on your own the front room and turn it off once you're drained of it. issues that were meant to keep us time has value us the family individuals unity and the friendships and the time has been replaced with artwork extremely of leisure, i imagine human beings are purely ordinary uninterested and so no longer something is high quality, i will and could be rude what are they going to do about it? Too undesirable, I loved the former days even as children were regarded out by employing the community, the dogs became by no potential a topic, the waitresses easily had to help you..you get the perception.

They are 100 times more rude than in the past. I've seen a large difference just over the past few years.
Of course, the Bible foretold that "the love of the greater number would cool off"- Matthew Chapter 24

They seem to be, at least from my observations in America.
It might be due to less control over our own lives. In the old days if you insulted someone, you had a chance of getting punched in the nose. Now if you get insulted and you punch someone in the nose, or if you insult and get punched, both of you will probably get to visit a local jail and will have seemingly endless legal problems...pricey too. Most everyone wants to steer clear of these types of problems so it permits the rapid growth of rudeness...no immediate downside. People can get away with it, so they do. Quite uncivilized really. Look at how nasty the internet can be...shocking really. Oh well, these current times gives those that value politeness, chivalry, and honor an opportunity to shine!

Without a doubt. Everywhere you look you see it. The use of vulgarity is on the rise, women are demeaned in pop music, See this link:

People don't seem to care as much as they once did. Sarcasm and cruelty is running rampant in all forms of media and entertainment. Respect for elders is non existent. Common decency and kindness towards other people seems to be slowly slipping away.
I'm a single dad to a 12 year old daughter, and I am very concerned.
Now tell us,everyone, what can we do about it?

When parents no longer teach the children respect of others it was bound to happen. They do not think that they should be held responisilbe for anything that they do so rudeness and troble follows.
