I've been to Corfu 3 times. Once to Kavos (accidently!) 18-30 type of place but had to join in and eventually had a good time (no point in moaning) and Sidari... which is gorgeous on the north of the island. Whilst there though I got out quite a bit and travelled down to Corfu town and also went out on a few boat excersions... with a local company, which was well worth doing, some of the coves and bays we saw were like little mini paradises, we got a fantastic lunch and wine on a little bay too all for about £10-15... we were out all day and got picked up from our hotel!! Amazing value .
Sidari was quite quiet and was good for couples and families but Kavos was the complete opposite... its a big island and vary alot from town to town.
The greek people are great and most of the apartments/hotels are quite small and family run which gives them a nice feel. Greek food is great, when I was in Sidari our Apartment owners had a barbeque.... yum yum... chicken, salad, tasiki, turkish bread! It was all quite intimate and didn't feel as tacky and chavy as Spain can do!!
Theres loads to do, whatever it is you want.... a litle tip, try out local excursions rather than the tour operators.... I always do this and get a much better deal for example... in May I went to Turkey my tour operator wanted £20 for a day at the tutrkish baths... I went to the local office of the organisers and got EXACTLY the same thing for £7!!!!!
Have a great time!

In September the weather will probably be hot and humid. I've just spent a week there just the other month. It's a wonderful island full of olive trees and nice and warm people, although it was already very hot and sunny then. You have to hire a motor bike or a car, which is quite cheap, because the public transport is not that frequent. Corfu town is splendid with its old and new fortifications. All the beaches are one and the same but Paleokastritsa on the west coast is wonderful and it's a must to visit. Sidari, on the north coast, is also worth a visit with its Canal d'Amour beach. Take a day tour to the islets of Paxos and Antipoxos just south of the main island where you can have swim in the crystal clear water. As a extension to this tour you may also be taken to mainland Greece to the town of Parga. You also have to go over the highest point on the island, ie, Monti Pontakrator from where you will enjoy a most impressive view of practically the whole island and Albania to the east. Also pay a visit to the renowned Achillion Palace, the home of Princess Elizabeth of Austria. Mouse island at the far end of the airport runway and opposite the village of Perama is a lovely attraction. And speaking of Perama, there's a lovely taverna just overlooking this Mouse island, called "AVRA"; you will enjoy a lovely dinner there with the nice view, the lovely people and last by not least the delicious food. And while over there say hello to them from the couple from Malta. Mind you, this is not a paid advert! Hope you have a lovely holiday in Corfu. If you require some more information feel free to contact me. After all I've found very helpful information from a contributor to Yahoo Anwers prior to my visit.

Corfu is a wonderful island and you are going at the best season.
Usually in August there is so much traffic jams in the centre of the town that it is awful.
Corfu has many lovely places to visit. Wonderful beaches, nice villages, places to go hiking, etc.
You can visit the Summer House of Princess Sissy, if you gamble you can place at the Casino and there are a lot of bars and clubs.
The weather its nice in September.
Kavos is a touristic place mostly with bars and hotels. It is not that nice to stay unless you want to club all day .:)
Try to eat where the local people are eating, since you will taste the traditional food and it will be good quality. Greece is not only mousaka, tzatziki and souvlaki!! In Corfu they have a wonderful local cuisine and very good wine and olive oil.
The town is wonderful and since the people from Corfu enjoy music you can hear peple practising instruments when you walk in the old town. In the old town you will see many bats as well. The buildings in the old town are wonderful.
In the biggest square of the town they play cricket in the afternoons.
In general there are many things to do on this wonderful island and if you are not stuck in just an ugly place like Kavos you will like it.
If you wish more information let me know.
Have fun and enjoy!!!!

I've just come back from Corfu. Very hot at the moment but in September it should be lovely. It;s a lovely island. Try going up the hills for a good view.
If you're into nudist beaches there's a lovely cove down a really rough track. Can't remember the name of it butmif you ask someone should tell you. If you go down there say hI to Stella from me. She sells jewellry on the beach. Really relaxed bohemian atmosphere.

The weather will probably be nice, not too warm but summer-like, although some rain is not impossible. Corfu is wonderful, nice picturesque town, monuments of the Venetian period, beautiful sea, etc. Usually very crowded, but in September it won't be.

Went there years ago. You will like it. If there are any problems
they usually arise from foreigners. Greeks tend to avoid trouble.
September will have very nice weather. Probably a little hot
some days, but many places have AC.

I went to Kavos a few years ago with my sister and we hated it! I'm glad we only went for a week because my sister was robbed and we were followed by some creepy guy for the whole week, it was awful, i wouldnt go back again.
