Before you go get it done get a bottle of ibuprofen. If you are going in the evening I would get it the night before and start taking it that morning by the bottle directions. After you get it done I continue taking the pills at least for a day or two by the recommended dosage. It really helped with my swelling and I know people who have done this and have not. The ones that have also had less swelling.
Good~ It does not mean you are gay (then again who cares if you are) The girls will like it if they try it! I have had mine done for 8years and I still love it.
Bad~ You do have to be careful not to chip your teeth. Some foods are a pain. Only things like caramel, or hard candy like jolly ranchers. They can get stuck on the top ball and are a pain in the a$$.
Make sure you keep it clean. Rinse like they advise you at the shop. Follow all after care instructions closely.

OK.
It hurts going in. I mean you're shoving a spike into your friggin tongue.
You can't really eat the rest of the day, and for the next two days its like soup and stuff. Then you're sore and swollen for a few days, but really it's nothing after like 3-4 days. It heals really quick if you follow the advice of the piercer.
I love it. Have had it for like 5 years now.
Some things to be careful of:
- Don't smack metal studs against your teeth, that will chip them badly.
- You may find yourself biting down on the ball, because you automatically think it's food when you are chewing. This will hurt, but you'll quickly realize and prolly never do it again.
Do it. It hurts for a few days but afterwards you'll love having it.

WARNING!!
The son of a friend of mine decided to go against his parents wishes not to get one of those tongue rings. He got it anyway and in a couple of days the front of his tongue turned black and had to be surgically removed. About 3 inches of his tongue is now gone and he can't talk or eat like a normal person.

the $1200 I spent on fixing cracked teeth would be on the bad side. However, it was two separate teeth 3 years apart from one another. I have since taken it out but I kept it in after I cracked the first one so I must have liked it somewhat....All in all I had it for 12 years and had many compliments and 0 complaints other than my own. I say go for it. You only live once.

Both my guy guy and I have 'em. It doesn't hurt getting it done, but your tongue will swell for a few days afterwards. I tend to unconsciously play with mine( roll it around, click it on my teeth, ect.). It can cause nerve damage and infection, but if you get it done by a professional and use Listerine like they tell you to it'll be fine.
P.S. I likea my guys ring alot ( wink,wink)

i have a tongue nail, i swallowed the head of my tongue nail while i was asleep, good thing i didn't swallow it hole. that was the first tongue nail i had. it was funny but very dangerous. just follow your heart, my parents refused and told me to take this off but i just adore my tongue nail, i've had this piercing for 5 long years. if you decide to have one, take good care and clean it as often as you can.
