.12 a yard can be written as .12 / 1 yard

then (.12 / 1 yard) x (1 yard / 3 feet), the yards cancel each other and you are left with .04 cent per feet.

Since the cost is now per 'feet', you have to change 12 feet 6 inches to feet only, thus 12.5 feet, now
