I have done alot of research in this area - mainly because I have a daughter that is a lesbian and I watch her struggle - as far as the legal issue - it is just another Way for our government to have some control - there are no justifications except for those that are biblical in nature -

which by the way church and state are suppose to be separate, according to our Constitution.

If you ask me.. Marriage shouldn't have anything to do with the government. So they get a tax break.. well they shouldn't.. people are also considered adults if married early... how freaking retarded is that.. Marriage is a religious ceremony.. Get it out of the Government is what i say. It's basically just a government tax form, find a girl or guy, and then have them sign up with you. It's as simple and meaningless as that. Just government mumbo jumbo. You want to be married and it mean something more than money? Then get married by a priest who will do it, or just have a ceremony and pick a friend to be the overseer. Why no gay marriages? Why any marriages? The government having anything to do with marriage is bolony.

I grew up in a strict catholic home. You never dated or marriage anyone from another race. Gays and lesbains were looked down upon and even thought we were never told this, we knew it was expected of us not be a lesbian or gay. For many years I had this fear of gays and lesbians. I thought it was gross. Now that I am older my view have changed. THere is nothing wrong with gay marriages. Everyone deserves to be happy. I do not think the gov has the right to say who can and can not get marriage. Just wait one of these presidents will have a gay son or a lesbian daughter. the law has not right intereing with someone personals believes as long as no one is being hurt.

Where would it stop???
As it is now Marriage laws are equal. I am a man, i could marry a woman just like any other man and any woman can marry a man just like any other woman. if you make things different for some groups based on preference then you would have to do it for other groups. There are people whom would like to marry many people, we would HAVE to accommodate them , as well as the people who would like to marry children. as is common practice in some religions . We would have to accommodate them also. not to mention if a person wanted to marry his sister, we would have to accommodate them .
The fact is that, if you start setting precedence by allowing certain special rights to certain groups (and they are special cuz we already determined that we all have the same right... right??) Then you have to start giving those rights to other groups as well.
So as I said, where do you stop??
As far as gay people actually wanting to marry I think it is more a way to get attention. Marriage is a holy union, I know there are allot of people whom don't take it seriously, but it would be like if I was to start trying to be a Buddhist monk and I had millions of people who where with me that wanted to do the same thing but none of us actually wanted to practice the religion or follow even the most basic of tenets of the religion. do you think Buddhists would be happy about that? To some, Marriage is the most sacred of gifts god has given them and you cant expect them to let a group walk all over it...
There is also the matter of social security... If a man dies, his wife can collect his social security but not the other way around. So how do we decide which is the Husband and which is the wife? They would have to decide that in the beginning of their marriage and when asking them, are you not then violating their right to privacy??? The government would have to be in on that decision from the beginning. Is that what you want? Of course we could just change that little problem by making it available to both husbands and wives, but then if there isn't enough money in it now for the people we have now how can we pay for it when Husbands can collect their wives social security when they die?
And you know what it is like to change the social security problem (or any other government program) if you paid any attention a few years ago.
As a Libertarian I don't think the government should be involved in other peoples personal decisions, however I think it should be all or nothing when it comes to the government's involvement in my life in these situations and I don't see them butting out in the area's that really matter.

You know why? Because the US bases their "laws" on the bible. We are fond of the devine right, were God tells the "President" what to do. I mean, this is what is going on right now. It is stupid if you think about it. But I hope these people get the right for freedom of marriage. I guess America is keeping the status quo: land of the free.

Because the president of the united states is an ***. Even though he has his own beliefs i think marriage is about love not gender! im not gay or anything but i support them because if you truely love someone you wouldnt care if it was a male or female. Bush may not support gay marriage but i bet he likes girl on girl like most men.

People are afraid of what they don't understand. Not very long ago it was against the law for blacks to marry whites. It was considered "unnatural". In my opinion, if one consenting adult loves another consenting adult it's none of my business what race, sex, or religion they are. Love is love. If only everyone could learn that and stop forcing their religious beliefs on others.

It is illegal because our fine nation was founded on strick moral principals. For thousands of years traditional marriage has been the cornerstone of civilization. It is an abomination of the natural order of life. It makes God cry.

Personally, I support gay marriage. I realize there are many people who have a personal or religious obligation to homosexuality., and that's okay I guess. But, I don't understand why society feels it necessary to dictate who another person can be married to.

Yeah ... first of all .. it's not marriage, it's a gay act
usually in marriage, there is an objective ... while in this gay union , it's just a sexual thing
beside don't you know how much diseases it can cause both organically and socially !
