I would have to say it's actions like the French did in the World Cup Final. You run into the box, don't get touched at all, fall down like you got shot, and you get a free kick on the goal. Or they are so whiny they can't take some trash talking and have to headbutt someone in the chest.
In America we respect REAL men playing sports. We don't respect games where someone breathes on you and it hurts you so bad you'd think he'd have a broken leg. We respect games where you put your body on the line. Football, Basketball, Rugby, Baseball, Hockey, Lacross, etc.
If you want real evidence...soccer is a child's sport here in the States. There are parents out there that would rather have their daughter play soccer rather than gymnastics where she could break a bone. That's why we even show Woman's Gymnastics more interest when the Olympics are going on.

It's like the age old question: If your friends jumped off a bridge, would you do it too? If the whole world worships soccer, do we really HAVE to? I'm much more happy with football.
Football is not the only sport where you can sustain serious injury. All of them have some risk of being majorly injured. T.J. Ford (plays basketball) made a jump for a ball a few years ago and seriously injured his back, almost paralyzing him. Some pitchers in Baseball have gotten an unlucky break and have the ball hit right back at them, one I remember getting absolutely pelted. It just the risk they take.
It doesn't happen as frequently as your question makes out to be either.

There doesn't seem to be any plays. Just a bunch of guys kicking a ball (and each other) up and down the field.
I like a little stopage in play like football to look at strategy.
Soccer players all look the same: 6 feet, 190 pounds. Football has fast guys, big meaty guys, and huge butt-stomping guys.
Americans like their own things, and could care a less what the rest of the world does. For all we care, the rest can be sucked out into space and we probably wouldn't even know it.

Soccer will never become big in the US for several reasons. First, we do see soccer as a very slow moving, and boring game. Second, there is way to much competition. Football, baseball, basketball, even hockey are more popular and will continue so. I say let the rest of the world have their soccer. It's no great loss for the US.

Because football is a much, MUCH more exciting sport than soccer. Furthermore, there is no the nonsense of red cards and players faking injury to get others into more trouble. Soccer is an okay sport, but nothing compared to football.

Football and baseball are the past times in the US. Soccer to North Americans (yes, Canadians to) is just boring.
The only reason soccer gets any coverage in North America is because of all the foreigners that come over here.

Well soccer is getting more popular with kids here cause the kids are getting many injures in baseball, football, and ice hockey. Kids basketball doesnt have too many injuries but you have to be atheltic to play. So if your just an average joe soccer is the perfect sport for you. Soccer is for people who are generally collectivist and only like soccer cause its popular of course soccer fans will deny this. Just cause the world loves soccer doesnt mean we have to. In countries like brazil they are too poor to play sports like football so they have to play soccer. Brazil might have mastered soccer but still yet to master indoor plumming.

BECAUSE "SOCCER" SUCKS! The players are very athletic, but there is little scoring and no one wants to sit around for 90 minutes watching a ball being kicked around! Maybe if they made the field smaller it would be more exciting because the pace of the game would quicken and there's be more shots on goal.

Because We have many other sports to watch Plus Soccer time needs a major fixing. Which Is one reason Why don't like it. The referees could cheat all they want we have to many in the other sports who cheat so that is why we don't care for it
