Because religious folk are scared of homosexuals. It's against their god's word, the bible, and they must follow every word they read. They are not allowed to question or think for themselves. They are not allowed to see others as people. They need to define everyone by what they do.
There are no good reasons to keep gay marriage illegal that aren't related to religion. And that's very sad.

Other than the fact that seemingly most of the population thinks it's immoral and unethical? No.
My mom has a problem with the term "marriage" when used to describe the union between two gay people. She swears that "marriage" should only be between a man and a woman, however, two gay people may enter a legally binding "union" (so, they're essentially married, but just not coined as "married" - get it?).
Me? I'm a straight 23-year old woman. I love my fiance with all my heart. And I'm all for gay marriages. Why? Because I have seen so many gay couples that are so happy with each other - who is our government to say that people as happy and made for each other as they are, are not allowed to be legally wed? It's just not right.

I have no problem with a gay couple having the same rights as a straight couple. I have no problem with a legal gay union. However, I feel the word "marriage" should be reserved for the traditional union between a man and a woman.
It should be legal, but just give it another name.
Now do not hate me for my answer, just look at it this way. The idea of gay marriage is a relatively new one, shouldn't it have an equally new term applied to it to celebrate it's unique bond?
I read somewhere that same sex couples have a lower rate of seperation then dual sex couples. I wonder if that was true?

I'm surprised that lawyers haven't jumped onto the Pro Gay Marriage band-wagon. If there are more married people there are bound to be more divorces. That equals more money in their pockets!

Nope, no good reasons. Just the fundamentalist ones that I'm sure you are already familiar with.
But, it is legal in Canada now, and some European countries too. Maybe someday the US will catch up!

unfortunately, the bible says that homosexuality is wrong. people who take the bible word for word believe that it's against god, church and all that is right to allow gay marriage so it's banned in most states.
don't take this as my beliefs tho.
