If the question is serious, I give a serious answer. In some cases a short answer says more.

You already have answered your question.
Main reason for short and crappy answers is the point system. I have seen answers like:
"I don't know."
I can point some other reasons:
Short answer doesn't mean that it is crappy. May be the questioner also is expecting a short answer like "Yes" or "No".
Some questions are also short and crappy as well to the point that those deserve a short and crappy answer.
Sometimes the question is not clear enough to give a better answer. So the best thing is to direct the questioner to a possible solution by answering it generally. (not being specific)
I like to be the first to answer a question. So perhaps the answer becomes too short. (but not crappy)
There are people who think that they know everything and answer things that they have no idea about.
Some think of making fun out of answering.

Have you ever read Don Quixote? There is a part where a woman contemplates her beauty, and the foolishness of others in how they react to it. Some despise her. Others want too much of her. And all of it happens simply because of an attractiveness she didn't ask for. She then warns that she is "fire at a distance," and "a sword laid aside," which will neither burn nor cut those who come not too near. This medium (the net) allows us to ponder on flames and blades from a distance. Those who prefer to stay hidden in the shadows say little when given the opportunity to do so (they're short, in, perhaps more ways than one), and those who naturally despise beauty may even toss a barb or two your way. In either case, they reveal themselves as the hiding, skulking cowards they are ..... But now and then, you run into someone like me, who enjoys approaching the flame (somewhat more insightful answers). Of course, this may just be nonsense, but I don't think it is. ;-)

I agree with you.
However for a funny question the answer would be funny too.
Some question has double meaning, like I saw one question
"Where is Chevrolet's home factory" - the asker meant where is the main factory, but got a reply - "Chevrolet does not make home".
Also at times in between some critical and monotonous work little bit fun is good - works as Vitamin.
Its purely on asker choice - laugh with it or ignore it.

i agree! if you can help someone who is having a difficult time finding intelligent answers, then whats the sense for making points. its irrelevant tome as well. you find whose real when you find closure to questions ask. a real answer doesn't lie in the length of the page, its in thee intelligence of a few words spoken. most people answer questions and all they do is talk about themselves and their situations so much, they forget who was having the problem. key to all ..... focus on the question at hand and not yourself. don't set examples because examples tend to slide you off topic, then the focus is on you instead of the person who is really having the problem.

Now lets not rush to judgement, they could be impaird or have a disability. They are doing the best they can. In all honesty I think a crapy question deserves a crapy answer. But just so you don't feel cheated I'll throw in this lib joke.
Americans with No Disabilities Act.
WASHINGTON , DC (AP) - Congress is considering sweeping legislation, which provides new benefits for many Americans. The Americans With No Abilities Act (AWNAA) is being hailed as a major legislation by advocates of the millions of Americans who lack any real skills or ambition.
"Roughly 50 percent of Americans do not possess the competence and drive necessary to carve out a meaningful role for themselves in society," said Barbara Boxer (D) CA. "We can no longer stand by and allow People of Inability to be ridiculed and passed over. With this legislation, employers will no longer be able to grant special favors to a small group of workers, simply because they do a better job, or have some idea of what they are doing."
The President pointed to the success of the US Postal Service, which has a long-standing policy of providing opportunity without regard to performance. Approximately 74 percent of postal employees lack job skills, making this agency the single largest US employer of Persons of Inability.
Private sector industries with good records of nondiscrimination against the inept include retail sales (72%), the airline industry (68%), and home improvement "warehouse" stores (65%) The DMV also has a great record of hiring Persons of Inability. (63%)
Under the Americans With No Abilities Act, more than 25 million "middle man" positions will be created, with important-sounding titles but little real responsibility, thus providing an illusory sense of purpose and performance.
Mandatory non-performance-based raises and promotions will be given, to guarantee upward mobility for even the most unremarkable employees. The legislation provides substantial tax breaks to corporations which maintain a significant level of Persons of Inability in middle positions, and gives a tax credit to small and medium businesses that agree to hire one clueless worker for every two talented hires.
Finally, the AWNA ACT contains tough new measures to make it more difficult to discriminate against the Non-abled, banning discriminatory interview questions such as "Do you have any goals for the future?" or "Do you have any skills or experience which relate to this job?"
'As a Non-abled person, I can't be expected to keep up with people who have something going for them," said Mary Lou Gertz, who lost her position as a lug-nut twister at the GM plant in Flint, MI due to her lack of notable job skills. "This new law should really help people like me." With the passage of this bill, Gertz and millions of other untalented citizens can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Said Senator Ted Kennedy , (D) MA, "It is our duty as lawmakers to provide each and every American citizen, regardless of his or her adequacy, with some sort of space to take up in this great nation."

I agree, I feel that I can really answer their issue, if they have one, or answer their question to the best of my ability. They may not like my answer, but not everyone is going to get the answer they like. To answer your question- There is a lot of immature people in this world, and they think it is funny to get a short stupid answer....

Some of these people think they're funny too. Or they enjoy being intolerant without being able to back up what they say.
